Grandad or Uncle Albert?

Which old man did you prefer in Only Fools and Horses? I liked Leonard Pearce's Grandad better myself, but both great characters.

Grandad for me, although Albert was also excellent.

Ditto: With A Vengeance.

Dead heat

Dead heat

And for me.

They both added their own thing ..

Albert = 'I'm now going to sing a song called Ada'

Rodney 'Is there a song called Ada?'

Del 'Must be, he's going to sing it.'

Albert (sings) , , 'Ada, you with the stars in your eyes . . .'

:D

Yep, equal for me too. Both had their own thing, as Oldrocker says.

Grandad clearly.

Both great. And it must have been very difficult for Buster Merryfield to effectively replace Lennard Pearce after his death.

(And both were infinitely superior to the Delboy's kid, who they brought in to fulfill the same role after Merryfield's death).

I thought both characters were great and agree with chipolata in that character Damien was terrible and not in the slightest bit funny. Scenes with smug Damien in it made me cringe.

Yes, that bastard child Rolling eyes

He was annoying though :P

Has to be a dead heat for me too. Both brilliant in their own right.

It's Ray Dawson!

*points*

I thought Grandad was better. Both characters were well written and acted but Lennard Pearce had more charm that Buster Merryfield.

Grandad. Bit more real. Uncle Albert was a bit cartoon.

In the earliest episodes Grandad was actually a fairly unpleasant and unsympathetic character. Only when they made the decision to make him less cantankerous and more befuddled and naive, did Grandad really become part of the show's success.
