Father Ted- There's too many but I think 'Speed 3'.

The IT Crowd- 'The Work Outing', although there are a few episodes from the third series which are up there.

Not Going Out- I think the 'Death' episode from series one, although again there are too many good gags in each of episode to choose

Spaced- The one with the shoot out the end (can't remember the name now!)

Friends- 'The one where nobody's ready' or that one where Ross makes up a Quiz and they end up swapping apartments

Gavin and Stacey- The one with the barn dance

Black Books- 'Grapes of Wrath', when Bernard and Manny make their own wine

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace- 'Skipper the Eyechild'

Extras- The one with Sir Ian McKellan

I'm Alan Partridge- The episode with 'DAN!!'

Phoenix Nights- When they have a family fun day

I agree with a lot of the above. For Young Ones though I'd choose "Bambi" (University Challenge) - although I'm not a massive fan of several Young Ones episode, that one seems like it packs far more than 30 mins of comedy into an episode.

South Park - I'd choose the first Mr Hankey one, which also has the "Kyle's Mum's a Bitch" song.

Everyones going to have different favourites. It's like trying to do your 10 favourite bros songs. Impossible!
I don't think that Back to reality is the definitive Red Dwarf episode.
The best one without a doubt, but not really the definitive one.
You'd need something from the third or fourth series, where they are using a few special effects but the Rimmer Lister dynamic still has a bit of character.

And my definitive Bilko episode is that one where he dreams up that crazy scheme, almost makes it, but then has to lose it right at the end.

In my opinion, I think The Young Ones is packed with so many solid episodes that it is difficult to pick out one that is necessarily better than another. The thing about Bambi is that it was selected as the episode put forward for awards and therefore has had a higher platform than any other episode. Bambi is definitely great and I can see a few reasons why people would pick it. It probably comes down to preference in the end.

I like that one too.

I always liked the Bilko episode where it turns out his crazy schemes were actually becuase he was a Russian spy, and he gets executed by firing squad.

Right up there with the episode of Dad's Army where Pike goes mad from being called a stupid boy. He kills himself and Mainwaring in the Church toilets in scene Kubrik ripped off in Full Metal Jacket.

I doubt most people of my generation even read papers/watched award shows at the time the Young Ones came out - I certainly had no idea about that till your post. You're right though - depending on your exact sense of humour, you could pick several episodes as the best. Bambi also has the benefit of "Ace of Spades" as the music track of the week, whereas lots of the other tracks used were pretty average...which is a hammer blow to 10% of the running time of the episodes in question.

Men of the World - the episode where Lenny and his mates are all arguing about who scored the winning goal in a football match when they were at school.

Oh, and Hancock - The Blood Donor. One of the best episodes and also shows his character off perfectly.
