But couldn't work without one apparently. Not knocking him, he was very good at what he did but limited to what he did. Especially against many he worked with who learnt their craft in music hall shows and knew how to extemporise or fill in, as they called it. I believe this may be part of the reason for the 'distance' between him and Williams, a master at filling in and not exactly shy about his talents.
