Hancock's Half Hour Page 19

I think the best Hancocks are the ones with Kenneth Williams who is probably my second favourite British comedy actor of all time and the one I like most. The more the years roll by, the more I love him and I see him for all the imitators as an original. No one else can compare. My favourite Hancock episode - and I have done about ten in the last 48 hours as it seems so normal and reassuring in these terrible times - is the one that involves Kenny as sorting out an aeroplane that has run into difficulty. I do have books on Tony who is my favourite ever British comedy actor with a lot of programme detail but if anyone can give me the title then that will save me a research job. I can get Alexa to it although she is fickle. For the record, not that it matters seeing I am just one little fool, my third favourite "British" comedy actor is Sid so it all comes together there for me. I like wacky. Hancock was maybe more wacky than we now think in its age and some discussion on that aspect would potentially be interesting on another day. I also adore Round the Horne.

Who has?

That's near West Sutton station.

It's at the top (south end) of Western Road.

That's right. Alongside the railway line.

Wasn't it called the Secret Life of Antony Hancock?

I feel a real need to own that board game now!

Thanks Chappers.

I will check it out.

Every other square says Go to Jail!

"The Elopement" on R4+ this week......................Bill is in love, but her millionaire father won't have his daughter marrying such a nondescript person as he wants her to marry someone with a title, so The Lad and Sid get involved when they hear she is to come into over a million quid, and so big up Bill to the prospective father....................not verbatim, of course

Hancock "What? This lad has class, breeding and is haughty. Go on Bill walk over there and show him some of your haught"

Mauve world; green me :)

One of my absolute favourites.

" Tin Can? Tin Can; yes, let's see, I think I'll lean up against the fireplace with one arm up, suggesting the lid's being opened."
Has me in fits no matter how many times I hear it from The Lad. Laughing out loud

Unanimous on this one. With Warren and Fenella.

Proof that they were very much ahead of their time:

Apologies but I long ago stopped reading, or watching, any discussion platform that has coronavirus or covid (or indeed Brexit) in its title.

One of the specialist subjects on Mastermind last night (Monday) - Hancock's Half Hour. Should be still available on iPlayer.

(I hope that no-one has already posted this information elsewhere - I'm beginning to get a complex!)

Thanks for the nod, and have watched the young lady - I'm impressed as a couple of them I wouldn't have known, for eg the repeating of Alpine Holiday when Tony couldn't go on with the planned prog. owing to flu.

Slightly jarring though, with Humphrys' intro.................
"Ahh, that great television series starring Tony Hancock...................." 'scuse me? Radio?

Anyway, is it just me or are some of those questions over detailed - surely someone as knowledgeable about Hancock wouldn't need all that time wasting filler, when they could be answering the question and so get more points - just sayin'.
