What are you watching on TV? Page 2,193

I was expecting boobs. Radio is such a good medium for sci fi and fantasy.
I'm extremely proud that even though I grew up in the porn-free late 80s, I never once used Madonna or Samantha Fox as studies. I have standards.

I used to have some of the old Tom Baker Dr who's on CD

Nice!

The reason I hate Madonna is she was the beginning of this ludicrous and ultimately harmful bollocks that a woman who sells herself as a sex object is not a whore or victim but somehow self-empowered... And if you as a guy criticise her, it's not cos you want to respect women but cos YOU have a problem. There were still women with ability and dignity (Siouxsie, Annie Lennox, Alison Moyet) but because 99 per cent of us are animals, the Madonna approach won. Sad.

Hitch-hikers was far better audio only. I had the restaurant at the end of the universe vinyl. Cool.

I'm currently watching a classic episode of "Coronation Street".

As I turned on my TV, I saw good old Emily Bishop - played by actress Eileen Derbyshire.

I was immediately put in mind of an occasion when I had lunch with Eileen in the BBC canteen at Manchester.

She was sitting opposite me at the table and I was eating a cheese salad.

As I attempted to cut a very small tomato with a not very sharp knife, the knife slipped and propelled the tomato away from me towards Eileen, passing straight through a mound of grated cheese as it made its way towards her.

She was good enough to return my tomato before gracefully proceeding to flick a significant amount of cheese shrapnel from the front of her jacket.

She saw the funny side: she's altogether more of a character than Emily ever was, I can tell you! Laughing out loud

Can you do shit Coronation Street impersonations? Well I don't really know.

Jam and Jerusalem- episode 1

I'm watching the HBO mini-series "Chernobyl".

Interesting stuff and quite entertaining.

Almost all the lead roles (in Episode 1, at any rate) are charismatic actors whose faces I recognised immediately but most of whose names I couldn't have put to those faces.

Friday Night Dinner was never the same for me. I was hoping the Chernobyl character would say "Shit on it!" at least once.

Thanks, DaButt.

I knew I recognised him.

I just couldn't think from where! Laughing out loud

I'm watching one of the "Talking Heads" monologues from Alan Bennett.

An English woman is talking about a new care assistant, who is Australian:

"A qualified physiotherapist with a diploma in caring. It's Australian caring but I suppose it'll be the same as ours - only minus the bugbear of hypothermia."

Beautiful! Laughing out loud

We've had frosts for the last week.
Since it's Alan Bennett,I'm prepared to overlook his lack of local meteorological knowledge.:)

I'm just watching an old pop music show and to my horror, I've just seen a young Michael Jackson doing his entire act in blackface.

Accordingly, I have just deleted all his recordings from my hard drive.

Me too

Although with me it was more to do with him fiddling with young boys privates when he was pretending to be their friend

And we all laughed when he sang "I'm bad." in this red disco belt.

In fairness, we should bear in mind that no allegations of sexual impropriety were brought against Michael when he was black.

The troubles didn't start until he began to identify as white and therefore, of course, was white.

That's got to tell you something about white people.
