Fancy Writing Some Satire For A New Mag? Page 2

I want to crush his soul with my size 12 doc martins of satire....or.....more likely,..i just have to hope his sat nav was just like mine and it irritated the crap out of him with "there is slow traffic ahead" every few miles, for the whole f**king journey...little victories!

What exactly is 'Quaranzine' supposed to be satirizing? The establishment? The mess that is modern Britain? Or young adults afflicted by horrific social disorders?

I am sorry that everyone commenting on this thread clearly has such a problem with the completely innocuous magazine that I've spent time working on and which I'm proud of. It is very evident to me that you're all such talented and successful comedic writers, and I should never have offended you in such an aggressive way as posting on a public forum. If you didn't pick up on the fact that that was clearly steeped in sarcasm, then I will be more blunt. I find it honestly pathetic that middle aged men are taking the time out of their busy day (of writing hard hitting comedy) to write unprovoked nasty comments about a magazine that they have no relation to, calling its contents and thereby its writers 'afflicted by horrific social disorders'. Slightly tragic. Will be taking this post down shortly as Quaranzine wants no affiliation with such feeble behaviour, but will leave this up for a bit so that you can see that you've offended a person.
I wish you all luck with your illustrious comedic careers.

I sent a piece to the mag and got constructive feedback straight away. Can't fathom the negativity in this thread.

Christ, that's nothing.
You should hear them bang on about Brexit and "taking back control".
You're better off out of it. Honestly.

the completely innocuous magazine

Then it isn't satire Sophie. I'm sure you know what happened to Russian, French and other satirists in the past.

And if you're taking such offence to mild satiric comments about spelling or youth then I'd suggest you don't practise it yourself, as you surely wouldn't want your er targets to be offended. A satirist who can't take the joke themselves is a sad thing to behold. Good luck with it though, cheers.

Very uncool behaviour in this thread.

Certain members are making themselves very unwelcome on this message board. At British Comedy Guide we are all about fostering, encouraging, and supporting comedy - whether from established stars or new, aspiring talent.

If you're not down with that, please resign your membership and f**k off.

nasty comments about a magazine .

I'm sorry but where exactly are these? Are you sure you're not over reading or misreading some?

.

Same question here, where exactly? A few mild satiric responses to a satirist, how hard is that to get and take for what it is? Huh? Scratches middle aged head.

I enjoyed reading the mag, very good.I think you being a bit over sensitive though. As far as I can see it's only one reply you took issue with. That's not bad :)

I am sorry that everyone commenting on this thread clearly has such a problem

Hi Sophie, i'm genuinely sorry you don't feel you were made welcome enough. But please don't clear off straight away, The forum part of the site could certainly benefit from some younger posters, let alone younger female posters. But you should really think about staying to take advantage of things like the opportunities section and maybe if you ask Aaron nicely he might do a feature on your magazine - which wouldn't hurt.

In fact i checked the posts in this thread, and i would say it was 7 positive (or at least not negative) to 3 negative posters. So i would suggest ''everyone commenting on this thread clearly has a problem" might be unfair to the people who were trying to be fair

PS i sent you a PM this morning, did you see it?

Well anyway good luck with Magazine.

Regards

Zero offense intended in my question. I never called your content or your writers "afflicted by horrific social disorders". I asked if the target of your satire is young adults afflicted by horrific social disorders. Much comedy arises from people with social disorders: Kramer in Seinfeld, South Park, Family Guy, The Young Ones, Fawlty Towers, etc. I perused your content and was genuinely curious about the precise target(s) of its satire. The first political one I opened suggested Boris Johnson is giving sexual signals with his hands and baffling body language (so i thought your target was the political establishment). But then there were items on preserving the vagina, watching porn, wanking, suffering through boring zoom chats with older relatives, and ordering vibrators. Hence I thought your target might be sexually frustrated young adults who spend so much time online, seeking validation, popularity and likes (it's a common problem), that they become cocooned in a safe space bubble that renders them afflicted by horrific social disorders (exacerbated by the coronavirus lockdowns). Content with headlines like "girls seeking male validation", "things to wank over in isolation", a guide to achieving TikTok fame and something about "What the F**k is Going On in TikTok" all suggested your target might be such young adults.

Don't go, Sophie, this forum needs new members. Think of this as a baptism of fire. Good luck with the mag!

I understand, perhaps I was being oversensitive. And yes that is the target audience.

Yes I agree I perhaps got caught in the heat of the moment. Thank you for being kind.

It's a good site. Not sure what some people on here's problem with it was.

Stick at it Sophie , you just have to be aware that a lot of writers suffer terrible frustrations getting their stuff seen and it can boil over at times. So I doubt you were the real target. On the plus side if you were able to pay for the stuff you would not have encountered any hostility at all perceived or otherwise , quite the opposite I suspect.
Could I also take the time to thank you for getting Aaron to swear at his own base in a Trump style outburst , it was refreshing to see that he has emotions as well as a website :P
