19. Naxos - Classical Music Label - Recent Releases

20. Chandos - Classical Music Label - New Releases

(A start - but most of my classical music info comes from Guardian, New York Times and NPR Radio. America)

There's also:

21. Talk Classical Forum

https://www.talkclassical.com/

(This is good for ordinary people's thoughts on recent classical music, jazz and to some extent rock and pop)

plus

22. The Presto and Hyperion Record Labels

(similar sort of thing to 19 and 20 - I won't include the links here)

23. Blues Rock Review - Best of 2019

24. Overblown - Best Japanese CDs of the Year So Far:

(And I try to find sites which review French, Chinese, Australian and Latin etc music specifically too)

SO WHAT DOES IT ADD UP TO?

Not a lot. :)

All of this list looks like I work on an industrial scale. I don't. My patience is not what it was which is why I can't cope with most radio which, at best, mixes up the good with the bad and the truly lousy. I can often go through most of the year not being especially aware of what new has happened musically. But then around Christmas I do about 20 hours of research starting with the lists I trust annually and checking things out on You Tube and then having a wander to see what else there is around as outlined. This hour I will do Wales. The next hour I will check to see if some of my favourites from long ago did an album in the past 12 months. The following hour I will delve deeper into jazz. And on hour four I will see if there is anything around in afrobeat or mouth music or Scottish fiddlers or experimental synth. Sometimes the trails lead to nowhere. Generally they do lead to something. As for my approach in terms of any actual listening, I will go on the basis of what I already know of music from my past which is tbh quite extensive alongside others' written descriptions before having a blast of about a minute or two. That is all it takes for me to know if it has any great promise or I can dismiss it. I suppose in one way or another I have been at this game at the turn of the year for 10 or 12 years privately or in public.

You certainly put some time and effort in to it.
The only radio I listen to is TripleJ Unearthed.New Australian music,no DJ's or ads. https://www.triplejunearthed.com/

Thank you. It is attractively packaged and is quite interesting in its focus. Virtually everything there is new to me. But a part of my issue is that I am not so keen on the worldwide emphasis on no DJs and no ads. I prefer DJs and could at one time accept limited ads. I just don't like the style of the DJs and ads we get these days while a lot of music doesn't chime with me for sounding miserable to my ears. That too taps into comedy. I have a short essay on this topic in me but I won't do it today as it is mainly critical and I am not in the mood to do critique. Let's just say that half of radio is now musical Fleabag.

Wow! Thanks for going into your sources in such detail, and providing all the links. I hadn't meant to put you to that much trouble.
:)

If this was a music forum, those posts ought to be pinned so that nobody misses them.

Oh it was no trouble.

I enjoyed putting it together.

It gave me something to do while I was cooking an omelette and simultaneously hang gliding over Croydon. :)

She Drew The Gun - Sweet Harmony

And I Love Her
by Serena Fisseau: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2At630pq7kQ

Bill Fay's Countless Branches is out tomorrow. He's always simple. He's always complex. And he's always deeply moving. I love the way he looks and sounds. I love too the way he disappeared for 40 years only to come back with one of this century's few exceptional classics in Cosmic Concerto. I haven't yet heard anything from the new album that reaches those heights but that was virtually impossible. Whatever its standard, the new CD will be a contender for my album of 2020.

Cosmic Concerto (Life is People):

I've listened to tens or even possibly a hundred thousand of pieces of music in the past 50 plus years.

Fay's Cosmic Concerto from 2012 would be in my Top 100.

Echo and the bunnymen - lips like sugar

Delicious

One of my favourite bands of all time.

I randomly picked out an LP to play without seeing what it was apart from an A&M label when I put the needle down. It was "If you leave me now can I come too" by Mental as Anything.

Chromatics - Lady

I had to play this.Someone is trying to get me to like the god awful Disturbed version.

It got recommended on a covers thread on Digital Spy the other day, so I checked it out again and only lasted about 20 seconds. :)

I didn't discover any new stuff on there.

This cover is growing on me.

Okay, gang, I need some help here. This song by Texas has an opening verse (after the intro) that's melodically the same as another very famous song, but its not coming to me so far. Help!!!!

Sorry. It just sounds like any C&W to me.

The Chromatics one is nice, you can't go wrong with a Neil Young tune though.
