This is one of my inheritance tracks as it goes from my Nan to my Mum and to me and onto, well, anyone really.

Barbra Streisand - One Less Bell To Answer/A House Is Not A Home

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USSCklHjQ4A

I mean - it's just beyond criticism - I love it.

It is, of course, a woman who loves a man song. It has that kind of womanly power.

I've just bought a second hand copy of the DVD of the great What's Up Doc?

(and that's easier said than done for compatability)

We all know that her voice was outstanding - actually unparalleled - in its clarity and emotion.

But Streisand in my opinion was also, when young, an amazingly good looking and sexy woman.

I agree.

And I said so at the Brighton conference.

No, it was actually on the "Who Do You Fancy?" thread just over a year ago.

As strange as it may seem . . . Barbra Streisand.

I think I strongly welcome this comment. I have never actually understood the word "fancied". It has always seemed to me to bypass the actualities of intimacy. In anything, I always go mostly on a person's vibe and what it does for me. I'm kind of like that even if it is a doctor or a lawyer with serious news to tell. But there was a time in my life when perplexed I got the vibe about what was right and what was wrong. I did think blokes were just copying each other and they proceeded in life by being fake, not that it was their fault. The big tits and the blonde hair. Which one do you fancy in Charlie's Angels?

Every real man has to go with how he feels. I wasn't anti the stereotype but I had to feel it so that it went beyond the stereotype and was more in the enigmatic although easy to relate to round. I' felt it big with Agnetha Faltskog so that puts paid hopefully to accusations that I am anti Aryan. I felt it with Minnie Riperton and Crystal Gayle I felt it with - well, I dunno, I'm the complicated kind who is not the type to contribute to that thread. I like the look of Jewish women. There I said it. I was attracted to Amy Winehouse. I love Yasmin Levy, I like West Indian women and I only want Jamaican and Irish nurses. But hey let's got past this as I find it difficult to talk about. A friendly hello to all of our Jewish viewers tonight.

These are among me other "I could melt" favourites....is it alright to say "I could melt?":

And Carole King.I think she's intellectually and physically attractive.

Oh yes,

Well, you have totally got where I am coming from there.

I do find her very attractive.

The bit that I baulk at although I accept it as well meaning is the "surprising as it seems". It's a very difficult area to discuss - almost impossible - because you get into areas of "yes but that is wrong with her" and I'm "no, that is precisely what is right about her and that's why I like her and find her attractive". I didn't win WW2 to be told who I should like to conform.

I do wonder if this stuff would be better placed in the round. That sort of slightly off centre as others see it is me to a tee in everything in life. I'm the bloke who turns up to someone who is known to be brilliantly talented and yet does just 20 minutes. Everyone walks out moaning and contemplating if they should take it to the law to get refunds. I'm the one who says that their refusal to conform made it my night of the year and full of great joy if it wasn't for such miserable sods.

See the late Nina Simone here in spades and Van Morrison or Bob Dylan on a cantankerous day. I have form incidentally on male musicians, The prettier they are supposedly the more I anticipate they will be totally crap and mostly they are.

It is all, of course, a bit musical and not, say, film star, but that is me and my principal reference.

Carole King's "Tapestry" - one of the all-time great albums!

Certainly one of my own favourites.

Love "It's Too Late".

And while there are so many on that impeccable album which are wonderful it is "So Far Away which just gets my vote.

This with James is iconic - and I love it so much.

Good luck to the beautiful Carole - I love the way she looks - on her long-term environmentalism.

All those immense roads from the Brill Building which contributed so much to our lives.

Happiness and sad contemplation.

She is so special. I love her face.

Tanita:

When I saw Tanita Tikaram live, my god, 30 years ago, the mate beside me said he thought she was a lesbian. I said categorically she was not as there was a bloody weird eye contact thing between us throughout which I rather liked even if it felt uneasy. He then observed this phenomenon and had to admit as the gig progressed that it was true. Later it was proven he was right and yet I was right on the night. I had never experienced anything like it before at gigs and never did afterwards. I do have a take on this. We are both dark in colour while theoretically white. We are both a bit spiritiual :

Another song that I thought is a woman (chick) but it's actually a man (dude)

It's a great song and I recall it well. It's kind of like Milli Vanilli only authentic and without the Red Hot Chilli Peppers socks stuck down his trews. Not sure that I can understand the confusion on your point. It's like you saying which ones were dames : Johhny Hates Jazz or Curiosity Killed The Cat as if the latter could have possibly been when the leading passing geezer was half French, double barrelled and came from the rich farming and arboreal communities of the Forest of Dean,

The thrum of coffee drinkers in Costa. It's quite soothing.

Pixies- Gigantic

Listening to Paul O'Grady on Radio 2 and after this song he said "That was Carly Rae Jepsen with Call Me Maybe. Why would anyone want to be called Maybe?"

:D I miss his show on Channel 4.

Maybe it's (short for) Maybelline?
