What are you drinking? Page 173

Yes, I've heard you like goblin, Chappers old bean.

I went to a Bank Holiday "Country" Show. Not heaving but there was a long queue for Lager but I went straight up to order my Bitter.

I really don't understand why they love lager. To me lager is just tasteless and I think it's it's just herd mentality.

Drinking a few pints of my Timothy Taylor Landlord-inspired bitter. It still needs to clear up a bit, but it tastes fantastic.

A nice beer is Landlord. They brew it about 10 miles away from where I live.

Should look like this when it's settled more.

It is or was Madonna's favourite ale when she was living here, apparently. I'm guessing its draught is different to bottled then because I don't recall being knocked over by the few bottles I've had. But then I've never quite taken to several beers that have been recommended to me. I go more for malty ales than the very flowery or hoppy ones although most IPAs are my go to beer if I'm unsure about the others.

A lot of this stuff seems make it's way down my neck.
The local landlord keeps it in pretty good nick, too.

There used to be lots of Timothy Taylor pubs around West Yorkshire but like all small breweries, they were taken over by the big boys.
The only pub in the village where I grew up was owned by 'Whitakers ales'
It had a huge picture of cockerel painted on the side wall with the slogan Cock o the north.
A friend of mine also had the same epithet for reasons I won't go into.

How far is the Cock Inn

Good ol' Keighley. I've never traveled north of Birmingham, but I've had about a hundred pints of Landlord over the years. It's my favorite British beer, but Harvey's Sussex Best is a close second. I brew clones of both since I have access to their yeast. British yeasts are very expressive and you can't really come close without the right yeast. I added some finings to the kegs, so I'll have 10 gallons of sparkling clear goodness in a couple of days.

I found a recipe, but I'd need to get my hands on their yeast. Forums say that they bottle condition their beers with their primary fermentation yeast, so I'll see if I can get my daughter to pick up a few bottles when she's there in August. It's trivial to grow up yeast from an unfiltered bottle.

The pub's five minutes walk away - so brewing it myself would be slightly self-defeating!
Not had it in bottles - but I know it throws a sediment, so I guess unfiltered.

Google Maps says the brewery is 4863 miles from my house, so I'll have to brew my own. :)

Growing up yeast from a bottle is easy: gently pour all but the last ounce into your glass, swirl the bottle to rouse the yeast, flame the mouth of the bottle to kill any wild nasties, then pour it into an ounce or two of unfermented wort (beer). Step it up a couple of times into more unfermented wort over the next day or two and you'll have plenty of fresh yeast.

I keep slants/slopes of hard-to-find yeast in a fridge so that I'll always have access to it in the future.

Very interesting. I've brewed beer before and still got all the accouterments somewhere in the garage.
My wife complained about the pong when I was boiling the hops etc, so I was reduced to buying concentrated kits.
You've got my juices going again - I'm already looking online.

I've warned you before about risking your sight on those porn pages.

I can't drink anything at the moment as I'm technically on the clock and studying for an IT certification for my new job, but as soon as the clock strikes 4, I'll have a few pints of the Czech lager I brewed. Once that's gone, I have 10 gallons of a Harvey's Sussex Best clone ready to put into kegs.

My friends just texted me a photo of them drinking Landlord in a London pub. What I wouldn't give to be there with a pint in my hand...

A pint of Sun Lik while waiting for a Chinese takeaway.
Rather fizzy!
