What are you watching on TV? Page 2,165

Still with Old Mother Riley Meets the Vampire, I was puzzled when near the start of the film it was made clear in dialogue that "the vampire" was not a real vampire but was simply somebody who imagined himself to be a vampire.

I considered that a betrayal of the trust of all the people who saw the film's title, Old Mother Riley Meets the Vampire, and subsequently bought cinema tickets in the expectation of seeing Old Mother Riley meeting a vampire.

However, it appears that the non-reality of the vampire was necessary in order for the film to obtain the "U" certificate that would allow children (Mother Riley's biggest and most numerous fans) to see the film unaccompanied by an adult.

Moving along, it's always a pleasure when watching old films to spot minor actors and extras who later became well-known stars.

I was quite proud of spotting the police constable in the police station and, although he is uncredited, nevertheless identifying him as none other than Friar Tuck from the legendary British TV series "The Adventures of Robin Hood". Laughing out loud

I always thought it was James Hayter but according to IMDB it's Alexander Gauge.

James Hayter did indeed play Friar Tuck, notably in Disney's screen version of the Robin Hood legend.

In the long-running TV series, however, the good friar was played by Alexander Gauge.

I'm now watching Cover Girl Killer (1959) in which Dermot Kelly plays a stage-doorkeeper.

He's reading a typical pin-up magazine of the day when somebody comes into his little office and says with a grin "I didn't know you read this."

Dermot replies to the effect that he is too old to have any interest in scantily-clad girls.

He was 42! Laughing out loud

Junk and Disorderly on ITV 4

Rarely wander away from the main channels and can't remember how I came to be watching this, BUT I am thoroughly enjoying it!!
Just a couple of mates buying and selling at shows, anything motor related from spare parts to antique petrol pumps to vintage tractors and motorbikes, and having a laugh on the way. It's amazing how much rare and unusual petrol and oil cans fetch these days for example!

I miss the banter from mates when I was working so these two are great at talking bollocks sometimes, but always tongue in cheek and funny.

I love The Repair Shop. Bill Paterson (name dropping there) tells me that he's in the middle of narrating the next series, so lots more restoration of much-loved articles to come.

Also the recent series of James May reassembling a lawn mower - amongst other things - from its component bits took tedium to transcendental levels.

Bruiser , the sketch show

I'd never even heard of this before

Mitchell and Webb look about 13

Watching Dennis Pennis and he's talking to Edwina Currie at a book signing.

"I've got an uncle Sam and aunt Ella and they're big fans of yours. Can you do me a favour and look at the camera and say I love you Sam and Ella". :D

After watching the whole DVD I wish Paul Kaye had done more work with comedy creations because he is very funny. Crude but funny.

I just noticed in the segment of Dennis Pennis at a porn awards ceremony a woman bends over in front of the camera and she is wearing denim shorts. Without going in to detail the camera zooms in and the crotch of the jeans are not covering everything if you know what I mean. You can see everything so the BBC censors must have missed that.

Just watched 2 episodes of Tripper's Day and now watching Shelley on Forces TV. (Virgin 277)

Correct - and here is the very clip!

In the following video, it happens fleetingly at 1.03

A high-tech person has advised me that, in order to get the best effect, one needs to be looking at the screen from the optimum angle and it helps if the brightness is turned up a little.

I haven't taken that advice as I am not a perv.

Even though it's brief it's still a clear shot and close up so I would think that would make it R rated so if it had been noticed it would have been cut as it's beyond any standard BBFC rating. I'm surprised it wasn't picked up in editing when they go through it frame by frame using one of those consoles with the big dial. I'm not saying I don't like that kind of thing but it has to be my choice and don't like it shoved down my throat.

I'm watching Netflix because I currently have three episodes of The Jonathan Ross Show recorded but I can't find a single one I want to watch.

I remember the days when this show was one of the highlights of my viewing week but these days there are far too many guests who, in a meritocracy, wouldn't be on TV at all.

There are still some decent programs on normal TV but they're becoming increasingly fewer and further between.

Thank God for the streaming services!

Watching episodes of Bullseye on the Freeview channel Challenge. Beware because it's addictive.

Jim: Can you name that person

Contestant: Is it Imran Khan Jim?

Jim: It is Imran Khan or when he gets married: Imran Can't.

Haven't time to watch it myself, but yes and I love Jim Bowen.
