Can't Tell Nathan Caton Nothing

New to me - I like it a lot.

HHH "The Fête" this week on Extra - excellent! The Lad trying to use his "connections" to get Larry Oliver (according to Sid before anyone corrects me!!) to open the local fête.

I'm very glad that the enjoyable old warhorse Ed Reardon's Week is still going.

Spud grinder? How uncouth, cake hole if you don't mind. :D

If you've not already hear it, listen to Spike Milligan talking about the mental cost of writing the Goons:

Listened to couples on radio 4 extra absolute rubbish

Read many articles/books and seen docs. on Spike on this subject and now listening to The Goon Show each week on R4+ I am at a loss to know how that man managed to write so much when they were at their peak, most on his own and its little wonder he went off his head.

I've given it a few chances over the years. I find it very uneven, often straining for laughs. Josie Lawrence's over-the-top performance doesn't help.

Not dissimilar in concept to The Architects, which I think is much better. It has just finished another re-run on R4 Extra. It has Jim Poyser co-writing. He's a past-master of droll.

Me too. The latest series is back to top form after a couple of patchy recent series.

Chris Douglas' Dave Podmore is also back for another outing on R4 Extra. Great stuff.

It's self-indulgent stuff. A pity, because seriously talented people are involved.

Thank goodness for Jake Yapp. R4 Extra's Comedy Club has degenerated into a parade of very unfunny hosts who manage only to get in the way of the comedy they're presenting. Jake Yapp, the exception, has wit and style.

Yes you are right about the hosts most have no comedic abilities, I also find most of the programs are devoid of humour don't listen as much as I used to. I do like the classic comedy at 7

"Ned's Atomic Dustbin" this week - absolutely insane, with Sellers airing more of his wonderful range of voices, apart from his usual "crew" and even Harry getting in on the act with some splendid voices.

SO FUNNY!

And as a double treat The Lad himself with "The Christmas Club" annual share out of the Hand & Racquet slate club and Tony not wanting a repeat of last year with the Christmas dinner of Turkey feet and chips............Laughing out loud

The Christmas Club I find a bit dark.Just the two of them and that persistent knocking by the copper.Has a feel of Steptoe about it to me.
I've just had a good laugh at Fist of Fun with Richard Herring as a driving instructor.

Oh, don't think that at all, just 'Ancock yet again having his ambitions squashed. Now, G&S could do dark of course and a classic example of that is the superb "Desperate Hours" of Steptoe - dark? Almost Dickensian.

I'm not sure who decided it was a good idea to commission a series of Paul Merton and Suki Webster's "My Obsession". The pilot was underwhelming, a mishmash of not very funny one-liners, clunky exposition and nothing remotely illuminating. It also revealed that Paul Merton wasn't an actor. Suki Webster was equally limited. I caught the first episode and nothing has changed. Not very funny one-liners recycled from the pilot and clunky exposition. The audience seemed keen to like it but were obviously struggling to find a genuine laugh. It feels like a vanity project.
