On the contrary, Herc. I love lots of the post war cartoonists, led by the incomparable Ronald Searle. The beautiful Anton cartoon is another case in point. All eras have their good and bad cartoonists, as you've shown with the examples you've posted.

But Anton's a woman! :O:D

Or do you mean this Anton?

Ah yes, Ronald Searle - superb!

With a readable signature, just had a little search and think this is the man. Know of him beaky?

I recognise his work, but didn't know anything about him. Thanks for that, Herc! Love his photo - a true Terry-Thomas lookalike! (Him, not you. Although maybe you, too?)

"I say, good show"

Er no, he has more hair than me in all departments...............I mean, not in all..........er, I wouldn't know that of course.........in all visible departments, that is.

So how would you rate him? Seems to have had a good run on dust jacket/book cover illustrations? And I like the beer mat! Never occurred to me before that someone has to illustrate them.

Thanks for posting these Herc. Even if the comments on them are sparse, they are still looked at and appreciated.

I look at the clever backgrounds that bring a mild joke to life.

I'm that sad, I noticed in the barbers one that the plug and socket for his clippers was a 5 amp round pin one.
And 13A square pin ones wern't introduced until the late 40's early 50's

Aww, thanks Stephen as being a lonely poster can make you sad.

Laughing out loud Yes, trust you to notice the 5-amp plug! A few years back, with the guidance of an electrician friend, I completely and insanely rewired a pre-war house we had bought (going seriously over the top with it - took me 6 months on and off!) as in some of the rooms the only power source were two pin sockets in the skirting board, AND over the years the wiring had been "modernised" at various stages in its life and in the loft was a white round plastic junction box with just about every type of wiring you could think of crammed in it, from deteriorating black rubber to modern grey. I seem to remember there were about 10 different cables going in and out of it with the lid, of course, barely screwed down. If that wasn't a fire hazard, I don't know what was!!
