Men Only Page 2

I assumed that Men Only had gone the way of the dinosaurs, but on googling was astonished to see it's still struggling on, with talk of "hot babes" "getting their kit off" Lots of magazines took speculative joke cartoons when I started off cartooning, now few and far between...

Interesting - not too dissimilar to sketch writing it seems.

it's still struggling on, with talk of "hot babes" "getting their kit off"

Several times a week for as many years as I can remember, I've popped down to my local newsagent to buy magazines showing hot babes getting their kit off.

Now that I'm not as young as I used to be, it's getting to be a bit of an effort to get out of the house and make my way down to the shops - especially in bad weather.

I wish there were an easier way to see pictures of hot babes getting their kit off.

Perhaps some sort of machine that taps into information floating around in the aether - but we're in the realms of science fiction now!

Just remembered (and amazingly it is where I safely filed it, which is nothing short of a miracle) a sort pornographic cartoon that an American serviceman gave to me when I used to work on the USAF bases in the early 60s - in fact I had to persuade him a lot to let me keep it.

He was a cartoonist on Life magazine in his civilian life and I have to say the cartoon is of very high artistic quality, but far too naughty to post on this forum. It is pornographic but not in the sense of being for titillation but a very clever joke - just a shame I cannot post it OR that he didn't sign it!

For clarification and the avoidance of doubt, I should say that I've only ever once in my life been into a newsagents to purchase a top-shelf mag.

That was in 1988 when, one morning, I read in the newspaper that police were raiding newsagents all over Britain to recover copies of the latest edition of an otherwise acceptable top-shelf mag that this month they believed had broken the law with regard to its content.

I zoomed round to my local newsagents and found a copy, which I duly purchased.

I told the newsagent why I was buying it and he pulled a puzzled face and said "We've got plenty worse than that!"

I was walking home from school once with some friends and saw a carrier bag leaning up against a wall and being an inquisitive type I had a look inside to discover a large stack of mint condition porn mags. They were issues like Escort and Razzle so not too hardcore. Not like like those European imports. Yeeesh!!

Another time I saw a bulging carrier bag in the street I thought I had hit the jackpot again but it turned out to be full of fish heads.

It was 'Parade' when I was a lad.
Bare ladies with the lower regions air brushed out.
Still a bonus find when you were 10.
The barber's used to have that mag on the coffee table too but mother prohibited me from looking.

The first time I sold a batch of cartoons to a similar smutty mag, they were published as a spread, with something very like this written underneath: "Here's a bunch of cartoons from Birch of Brighton. There's only one thing wrong with them - THEY'RE NOT RUDE ENOUGH!" They then sent me a cheque that I thought was a modest downpayment of the full amount, but I was wrong...

My grandfather worked in a factory where they recycled paper products into cardboard, so we always had a free supply of greeting cards, wrapping paper, comics and magazines, although they had the covers removed as proof that they were unsold copies. When I was about 8 I found that there were loads of cover-less issues of Playboy buried beneath issues of National Geographic in his magazine rack. My brother and I learned a lot that day.

Yes I noticed that - I'll dig the book out and see if there's a list as they did with Punch.....................

No, but found this man who drew the front cover, which for some reason I didn't scan,
and have now done so for your delectation. :D

Thanks Herc, I'm suitably delected!
