I read the news today oh boy! Page 1,995

OK, I do sympathise with this girl but surely Jazz Hands is racist.

Better than jizz hands, I reckon.

I hear moves are now afoot at Manchester University Students' Union to ban vocalisation during sex. The ban will apply equally to men and women but it is felt the effect on men will be minimal as communication during the sexual act has historically been the preserve of women with men preferring to adopt an attitude somewhere between inscrutable and downright taciturn.

Laughing out loud

I can't see anything racist about jazz hands but that story is ridiculous (mind you it is News Beat)

23 also seems late to be diagnosed. I'm not saying it's unheard of but if a dislike of clapping is her only issue I don't think that makes her autistic. I have a few traits that could be described as autistic but that doesn't mean I have autism.

Can't wait for this:

It brings a lump to the throat watching footage like that and it looks like it's been faithfully done. For the silent footage they used lip readers to work out the speec and voice actors. It looks very well produced.

Likewise. Looks very interesting.

It goes back to Al Jolson and the Minstrel tradition so I suppose not racist in the slightest.

I don't think that's the origin of the dance move though. There is no mention of jazz hands on Al Jolson's wiki page and no mention of Al Jolson on the jazz hands wiki page.

Did Al Jolson ever do the "jazz hands" thing? Maybe he did but I can't find a video clip or a still photograph that shows him doing it.

It's entirely possible that the concept goes back no further than Bonnie Langford!

Actually looking at this now it is quite bad.

Not as bad as the comments.
The unthinking racism of the 70's is nothing like as bad as the very knowing racism displayed below. Especially the way it's broached in a sort "those were the days before the BBC went all PC" sort of way.
I watched this with the family and it didn't seem racist - it didn't to any of us (even Lenny Henry).
The comments give the clip an even nastier vibe than it already has.

The most offensive thing in that video, is the singing. I've threatened to make my kids watch it unless they do their homework, they're still recovering from West Side Story. I'm guessing jass hands do not concern the #black-lives-matter lot.

'West Side Story' is my favourite musical. The jazz hands thing gives me the creeps, but I won't go into that.

Southampton University Student Union President wants to take down, or "daub over", a mural painted in 1916 commemorating students who weren't able to complete their studies because they went to serve in the 1st World War as the students depicted are all white men:

It really is unbelievable isn't it!
