Taskmaster Page 5

Just watched episode 1, thank goodness it's back! Aisling Bea is, as always, adorable and goofy in all the challenges, but the real stand out is Bob Mortimer. Mark Watson is the weak link at the moment but there are still lots of episodes to go!

I'm very new to Taskmaster, heard of it but never got round to watching it until today and I've been watching it all evening! Great show. New favourite.

I just caught up on the first episode of S5 last night. So funny! Everyone is great. I am going to give Mark Watson a chance to prove he's not a weak link. His personality sticks out slightly at the moment, but I think he might warm up to his environs. We'll see.

Bob is the major highlight for me. I'm so glad he's in this series. His cuddle was glorious, and everything that comes out of his mouth just makes me glad. Aisling is adorable, and Sally is a force to be reckoned with. She really went for it with her cuddle. Alex was losing it. It was great! Nish will probably make a fool of himself repeatedly, which is what the show needs. I hope Bob wins the series so he can be in the two, hour-long specials with all the winners.

I've never watched it but I've been hearing great things about it so am going to have to check it out. I suspect I'll be kicking myself I hadn't watched it sooner.

Can't help but feel Aisling Bea is trying too hard. Bob is great but then I'd expect his relaxed approach with nothing to prove. Sally although not always immediately funny is good as well and again comes across as someone at ease in the show. Mark Watson just doesn't seem as funny as he thinks he is. Nish fits into the 'victim' role well. On the whole a reasonable balance of characters but not the best series (so far anyway).

This is a good assessment. I found Aisling really annoying. Bob was brilliant and I'm glad he won, well deserved. I didn't find Mark funny before and he hasn't changed that. Sally was fine. Nish did fit into that role and he was very good. Although I generally find his laugh much funnier than his jokes!

I love Taskmaster, series one was a little off but from series 2 onwards has been great.

What do you all think of the lineup for the next Taskmaster, as well as the (multiple) recommissioning? Tim Vine will be really interesting to see, I think. Can he be thrown off guard from his usual lightning fast pun-o-matic gags if he's having to juggle lemmings while building a sandcastle out of marshmallows with only his feet?

I'm pleased as punch.

Also, I <3 Bob Mortimer. (had to be said)

I think Russell will be good in this. Huge Tim Vine fan so happy to see him on it. I think he will be a bit of a 50/50, he will either thrive and be amazing or he will lose. I don't know much about the other 3

There's a mistake in the article about the new series - it says "comedy star Russell Howard"

A trialer for the American version of Taskmaster has been released - along with about 20 comments saying how it won't be as good as the British version. The series begins on 27th April, and the show appears to be re-using a lot of tasks from the UK version.

Really looking forward to Taskmaster, as ever, one of the most fun, entertaining shows on telly. Great mix of comics. Tim Vine's my favourite this time round, though Liza Tarbuck is always good value too.

As for the American version? I've only heard of one of them, and Freddie Highmore isn't, as far as I know, known for comedy. Plus is it right that the episodes are only half an hour each? Which in American telly terms is, what, 22 minutes? That might give time for maybe two tasks, let alone any banter between the contestants.

Anybody else see the series opener? Boy am I glad it's back! Alice Levene is my new favourite, I confess I hadn't heard My Dad Wrote a Porno but will be rectifying that shortly! I was surprised too, I don't think Tim Vine uttered a single pun, must be a record! The stunts wit the wheelbarrow were so gloriously daft, but Liza's comeback to Russell about his agent at the end made it for me

Laughing out loud Loved that bit.
I think Liza's my favourite so far. Loved her little walk back to the Taskmaster house and her compliments to the tree.

Russell Howard is doing my head in already. Quite glad when Davies and Horne shut him down a couple of times.
