Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Page 7

Just been watching the first two episodes. What a fantastic series!! Why did it take me so long to try this one out.
Only problem, as a foreigner it's not always easy for me to understand what Oz is saying, he has a very strong Geordie accent. But I'm getting used to it.

Anyone not from Newcastle struggles with his accent.

Laughing out loud

Is the Geordie bloke with the moustache Bob Mortimer? I thought it's Julian Barratt at first.

It's so long since I've seen it I've forgotten what trades they all did but I had an idea Barry was a chippy and Wayne was a plumber but watching the building site scenes it seems they were all brickies except maybe Moxy who I'm sure must be a plasterer because he just looks like one.

Nearly right, 4 brickies the geordies and Bomber. Wayne was the chippy and Barry a sparky. I did have a vague idea one was a sparky but my logical brain said no, how can you have a non German speaking sparky who didn't pass the German version of the tenth edition or whatever it would have been then.

But Moxy was indeed a plasterer, a bit of a giveaway in his white overalls although he could've been a painter and decorator or a French polisher but my little experience of building sites tells me they were altogether on the same building projects so if you have brickies you're usually at the early phase of construction and not the finishing touches. Though I could be wrong.

There's lots of them but I like this one, especially with the female voice in the background clarifying Natch/Snatch

You're not wrong Alfred. It's called the first fix.
Brickies first, then chippies, then sparkies, then plasterers.
It was the 13th edition when I was at tech in the 70s.
They allowed British qualifications back then as they were desperate for tradesmen.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that struggled with "moose"...>_<

Such a beautiful accent until,Cheryl appeared.

Six episodes in and I still think it's great. Only criticism, the Germans...
One female extra was a real German I think. Others are quite talented in speaking German but you can still hear a little accent...and the rest of the actors are rubbish at pretending to be German. Completely wooden, like the two "German" paratroopers in episode 4 of Dad's Army (and why do Brits think Germans finish every sentence with "ja"?!).
Maybe I'm a bit too pedantic but that mars my enjoyment of this series a little bit. But hey, otherwise I'm loving it!

One of the Kraut inspectors who was always on their case was a teacher in Grange Hill I remember. Laughing out loud

It's fine for us Gordon as we don't speak with any accents.

You have to remember, Gordon, it was virtually all made in England, Wiki says they filmed just ten days of s1 in Germany, for a 13 times one hour long episode run. And even then it was in Hamburg instead of Dusseldorf where it was set. :D
