I'm a bit of a supporter of Northsyde having seen their singer and guitarist husband and wife in various bands several times over the years.
They were brilliant doing mainly originals but covered Jessica, Whipping Post and Statesboro Blues.
Jules is just such a brilliant guitarist and Lorna has such a strong voice.

I was too f**ked up to appreciate it at the time but in retrospex 1996 was an awesome year for mucous. Suede's most accessible album to date, Oasis go ballistic, the Blur hype finally gets put in perspective, first full lengther from a New Orderer in three years (it's total and utter f**king shit but better than another rererererererererererelease), the Pistols pull off the unlikeliest reunion ever, the Beatles' mature years get properly ANTHOLOGIsed, and the Spice Girls bring fun, suss and sass back to the charts after dreary years of Radiocrud etc... I bet you never thought I'd say anything positive, and I'm not even joking.
A few picks from 2013-2017:
1. Brand new track from David Crosby who as well as still managing to stand has managed to produce something that sounds like Steely Dan.
2. A wonderful track from The Clear, a very underrated Sheffield, UK band that specialises in seventies style West Coast Americana.
3. Extraordinary "Porgy and Bess" treatment for the sort of Bob Dylan song that tends to be overlooked because it is from his "difficult 1980s period" . It's from the musical at the Old Vic in London, "Girl From the North Country" which uses Dylan's songs to depict the Great Depression in America.
4. Flyte. Blokes from London who do their own stuff as well as cover versions. The one I have picked out was originally by Jackson Browne. They have the Simon and Garfunkel harmonies down to a tee and need more recognition but as with The Clear it isn't the sort of music the industry is generally willing to promote.
5. And something of a curiosity - Men of North Country are from Northern Israel of all places and specialize in Northern Soul.
