New Sitcom Spec Script

Hi Guys, I am co-writing a pilot to a sitcom set in a small, provincial funeral home. Long time since such a topic was "commed" for screen in the UK. I'm OK with structure and dialogue, 6-gags/page, etc but has anyone the magic formula for success with something like this? If you have the magic formula, I need it please. You can leave it in a predetermined spot if you'd rather: a phone box, poo bin...just let me know the street. Thanks. Nick.

Hi Nick,

A basic formula worth trying goes something like this:

1. Reality sucks
2. Character flaws create trouble / an opportunity presents itself
3. Character reactions cause complications...
4. More poor choices and things get worse...
5. It's all REALLY terrible!
6. Actions or events return us back to (1)

I recommend this e-book by James Carey for more details... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Writing-That-Sitcom-James-Cary-ebook/dp/B011CTU2BY

Fantastic advice and the Kindle book sounds like a must.

Thanking you kindly.
