Harold Bennett was such a lovely man, what a stupid idea to replace him with a young man in an unconvincing old man disguise.

I have nothing personal against Berry, he just wasn't the right man to replace Mr. Lucas/Trevor Bannister. And: he only got very few lines (mostly insults against Mrs. Slocombe), he's practically non existing. Why bring him in then?

Poor old Jeremy Lloyd died penniless. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/allo-allo-you-being-served-6716353

"Old Mr Grace" died 15 Sept 1981.

Trevor Bannister was fantastic as Mr Lucas and his facial movements were hilarious. He was a perfect foil for Mr Humphies brilliant innuendo, but chose to leave after the seventh series had finished, because he thought that the series had gone as far as it could and wanted to do other things. Maybe seven series would have been enough, but all of the ten series are still very funny, thanks to John Inman being at his very best.
Mike Berry was brought in to childishly insult Mrs Slocombe in practically every exchange with her and you could feel every insult being set up on a plate by Mrs Slocombe. It was all a bit predictable and cheesy.
Replacing characters with other characters does sometimes work and I thought that replacing Mr Grainger with Mr Tebbs and then replacing him with Mr Goldberg worked very well. In fact Alfie Bass played Mr Goldberg very well and it was a shame that he left after only one series.

I love the show. It's in my top 5 favourite sitcoms of all time. I really think, that replacing the characters worked good in the show. I liked how Mr Tebbs replaced Mr Grainger, and then Mr Goldberg replacing Mr Tebbs. Mr Lucas was a brilliant character, and his pairing with Mr Humphries was wonderful. He was brilliant, insulting and joking around with Mrs Slocombe. This is what they tried and did with Mr Spooner, and just didn't work, to redo the same stuff they did with Mr Lucas. They could have took his character in a different direction. The episodes was fantastic, and I felt that Young Mr Grace was better than Old Mr Grace.

Captain Peacock, was an interesting character in the show. In some episodes, he was a really good and strong character, someone who you liked. An example of this is the episode, when he gets the staff up on the roof, because of the wages. I really hated him, when he and Mr Rumbold made Mr Humphries resign due to money going missing. Captain Peacock, should have known Mr Humphries and what he was like, and disgusting, not to believe him. Mr Rumbold, was someone who got on your nerves quite easily, because he was confusing and made matters worse a lot of the time. So it was quite easy to get around him.

The series, did become downhill, when Mr Lucas left, he was an important character in the show. I fancied Miss Brahms in the show, her cockney accent made it quite hilarious for situations at times, like when they were doing that advert for Grace Brothers, and the Nurse did the voice, because Miss Brahms voices wasn't suitable. I really liked her, in the episode, when she was a shareholder, and she did that posh accent, and I found it good.

The one off special, in 2016, was awful. I didn't like it at all. Mr Grace, was actually, young which didn't work. It was just cheap, and didn't work. I'm so glad, they didn't make it into a full series, otherwise, it might have ruined the reputation of the old series.

It became more frequent as the series progressed, but was a long-standing gag throughout the run. I've no idea without watching them just when the pussy was first mentioned, but I would be surprised if it was as late as Series 3.

Pussy was first mentioned in the second episode of the first series. But as the series went on, the pussy was mentioned a lot more.

Quick Question: How come they didn't put the color version of the pilot on the bonus disc of AYBS box set? I've got the boxset and it looks like they've just re released the discs from 2002 or 2003 or whenever the series was sold separately. But it's tons better than other BBC sitcom box sets though, with the extras on it. Is it because, the box set was released before the colour pilot was found?

I'm not sure I was aware there was an extras disc in that box set! What's on it?

All most DVD companies do is repackage the existing DVDs into a new case without reauthoring, and in my experience the BBC are no different, so that is indeed likely to be what's happened here. On the topic of the pilot, it was colourised (not found) in 2009 and premiered on New Year's Day 2010; the box set, according to my records, was then released in September that year.

The detailed reason why it's not included could be one of many things. The DVD people didn't care; they didn't know about it; extra copyright/clearance issues due to the colourisation process; or just being too cheap to reauthor the discs.

There are 6 extras in the boxset.

There is one extra in Disc 6 with Series 5. It's called Funny Woman: Mollie Sudgen
Basically, it's a documentary with Mollie Sudgen talking about her career and other people giving their views on her and her career. I don't know why it's not in the extra discs.

Then in the extra disc, which is disk 12 in the boxset, the final disk it contains
Funny Turns: John Inman.
This is John Inman talking about his career, with other people giving their opinion as well. Similar to the Mollie Sudgen one

Life on the Box: Wendy Richard
Similar to the John Inman and Mollie Sudgen one, with Wendy Richard and her co stars talking about her career.

The Best of Are You Being Served?
This is basically the best clips of AYBS, with new scenes by John Inman. It's a phone conversation between Mr Humphries and his mother, also played by John Inman. This was broadcast and made for America in 1992.

Celebrating Mollie Sudgen:
This is celebrating Mollie Sugden's 80th Birthday, with Mollie and her co starts, talking about her life. More in detail than the Funny Woman Documentary about Mollie Sudgen.

Are You Being Served on Breakfast?
This is an interview with the co stars of AYBS on the set, in 1983.

I wish The Story of Are You Being Served was on the boxset. I've never seen it.

Interesting regarding the pilot though. I hope they release it onto DVD in the future though.
