Maybe Gold are trying too hard to ape the 1970s/1980s comedies of yesteryear? That's what their audience demographic seems to want.

I haven't got Gold but the trailers seem really cringingly predictable which is a shame because I like both the leads.

Blame it on the bossa nova. That scene with matt Lucas and Tim Brooke- Taylor was great. And Pam St. Clement and Kevin Eldon. Well they were hilarious!
