Would I Lie To You? - Series 9 Page 6

Well I don't know what the Radio Times was watching because I thought that was a great episode.

What in the world was wrong with Romesh's upper lip? I missed half of the punchlines trying to figure out this mystery.

I didn't notice anything?

Eh, I tend to get fixated on weird things like that. The middle part of his moustache (over the philtrum) was... red for some reason. Either it's naturally red, which would be rather strange, or it was dirty and production staff didn't notice. It gave me (and probably only me) an impression that he has some sort of philtrum deformity protruding through the moustache.

...And that's quite enough of my quality assessment of this episode. :S

I thought that was the best episode of the series.

Laughing out loud
I was probably too busy looking at his lazy eye (which I think is quite cute).

Aside from that, a very funny episode today.

I wish they'd just have comedians and not other celebrities. It's too easy to tell if they're lying or not - generally by the size of their ego - if they are a normal celeb their story is normally true because they want to show how cool they are

That was quite a good episode, even the hip hop brat was ok...and the blonde woman is gorgeous.

Yes, I enjoyed it - "the blonde woman"?? :O Gaby Roslin you mean, and I creased up when Jack Dee said he would go for Gaby's Man Hole. Laughing out loud

:D

I think it would be a significantly worse show if all the guests were comedians. The non-comedian guests are part of what makes it interesting.

The only panel show I find funny...by a big margin. Stong episode (although Lee was a bit quick to jump across Romesh's story with his gags, good though they were).

Absolutely, but there's a real skill to booking the right guests.

Actors are good for a show like this (because they are professional liars, sort of) and newsreaders (as they need to keep a poker face and remain neutral when reading the news).

In general, musicians I think are a bad idea. Dare I say that a lot of them lack charisma and can worry a little too much about maintaining a perceived image.

Although Tinchy Stryder (who seems like a thoroughly decent chap and not a 'brat' at all) was decent during his story, but then he was silent for the rest of the show. I couldn't name any track he's done though.

Sports people are a little too out of their element. TV/radio presenters are a mixed bag (but usually a little bland). The more specialist presenters/experts (historians, scientists, naturalists etc) are good because they can have more outlandish stories to use.

Comedians (decent ones) are obviously a good idea, but if it were all comedians you could end up with something like Mock the Week. We don't want that.

They don't need everyone to be funny, sometimes you need a straight man to fuel David and Lee's responses. I think that's when it works best.

I just don't like it when people come on it who are blatantly going to tell a true story just so they can try and make themselves seem more cool or interesting - look at me, I did this once - that sort of thing

Oh, I have nothing personal against this chap. For me every hip hopper is a brat in XXL clothing sampling songs from the 80s. I don't understand the music and find the attitude (including a grim look on the face all the time) rather amusing. Yes, I'm biased.
