Portsmouth Sinfonia

Posting on another thread reminded me of this magnificent ensemble.

I had their first album - The Portsmouth Sinfonia play the Popular Classics.

The only problem was they couldn't play their instruments properly.

I think there were a few famous people who went through their ranks.

Try this for a start. The Blue Danube Waltz.

I think this was my favourite track.

and to answer my question above it includes Brian Eno playing I believe the Oboe.

I've read the Wikipedia article to this, interesting concept. Started as a musical experiment but became a cult phenomenon.

Traditionally, at the "Basler Fasnacht" (Carnival of Basel) special bands play their music deliberately slightly out of tune, that's called "Guggemusig":

Oh my. That sounds makes the unfortunate alto who bellowed tunelessly into my right ear during a recent pub gig into bloody Adele in comparison. Arggghhh!
