The Albion Basement - show 2 Page 2

Hi Gappy is away sunning himself up North. So it is my job to upload a little sketch from the last show. Hope you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u49vNMCXJU8

Neat premise but possibly could have been made clearer sooner.

Thanks, Tursiops.

Here's another - some of you mght recognise this from Critiquen some time ago...

Here's another one, for you all. If it sounds like it was recoded on someone's phone in the corner of a bookshop with about 12 people present...well, there's good reason, but apologies for the lo-fi nature all the same.

Have checked quite a bit of the Albion Basement material but as my time is mostly spent working and changing nappies I try to watch / write more stuff than give feedback in my spare'ish time - although lately I've been trying really hard (a bit like Scotland against New Zealand at rugby) trying but still failing pretty badly. :D

I listened to "jousting". Mainly because gappy said it was a shit recording so I thought good place to start. I think it's a good little skit but needs to be sharpened up - between the acting and the writing. It needs to be punchier. Describing what type of horse goes on a bit long and is predictable from too far out - I knew what was coming and there was no surprises (horse with hair, bones etc) perhaps throw in something surreal at the end or half way through? Or you could keep the words but divvy them up between the characters to make it more appealing and funnier - or better still throw in a gag.

Sire "You know a horse, with bones and skin"
Others "What about tail sir"
Sire "No, no, we don't want any women there"

Hope that's of use.

Really liked "jousting", thought it deserved much more enthusiasm from the audience than it received.... Were there very few of them? And was the whole performance a script reading? I wonder if the audience needs more warming up before recording....

Yes, v v small crowd, in a bookshop, so not perfect comedy environment. We did it the week before in a proper venue to a big bunch of people who'd had beer, and they responded very qwell indeed, but the recording wasn't quite good enough to post, and featured an ad lib that wouldn't make sense in audio, so we fell back onto this one.

Thanks for the feedback both of you. Your comments, Craig, were very relevant to a discussion at our script meeting this evening, I might come back and discuss further...or even make a fresh thread in Writers' Discussion, not sure yet.

Hi it has been a bit of a delay but here is another sketch, gappy would have posted it but he didn't.

Maybe if you'd told me it was uploaded, I would have Rolling eyes

Anyway, take a listen to this one, it's a bit different from what we normally do, but seemed to go down quite well.

Continuing our random shower of live audio clips, here's another from last year's show. Yes, there's a big fluff and some truly atrocious mike technique, but I think it's an interesting experiment to try to make comedy from repeated noises more than words.

'Love your 'ANNOUNCERS' sketch, especially about numbers on COUNTDOWN and codes for the cat! Brilliant !

Ah, thanks. :)

Announcers was one of my faves from last year's show, too.

And, just so people know, despite this being Annie's first post, it wasn't me under a fake account :O

The final sketch from our 2014 show: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOJy5d1EOwA

I put the script up in Critique a little while ago, but now you can hear it in its full poorly articulated glory!

That's very funny. I enjoyed well done. thought it started slowly and I wasn't sure but glad I stuck with it and soon enough was laughing.

Thanks, Warwick Marlow!

BTW, is that your name, or a projected travel itinerary? Quite a nice journey through the length of Oxon. ;)
