Privates On Parade

Army comedy set in 1947.

John Cleese stars as the eccentric bible-bashing Major Giles Flack, who along with his Acting Captain, Terri Dennis (Denis Quilley), an ageing theatrical drag queen, is in charge of preparing the Song And Dance Unit, South-East Asia (SADUSEA) for a musical tour designed to entertain the British troops stationed in Malaysia.

Struggling to survive in the war-torn jungle, and with their lives as much at risk from the lunatic antics of Major Flack as from the Communist bullets that are flying all around them, the members of SADUSEA also have to cope with the trials and tribulations of performing musical drag routines in front of battle-weary troops. Meanwhile, unknown to the beleaguered band of entertainers, their presence on the front line is being used as a cover by the corrupt Sergeant Major Red Drummond (Michael Elphick), who is illegally dealing arms to rebel guerrillas.
