A film is to be made about Catherine Tate's Nan character.

Industry publication Scren Daily reports that This Nan's Life will focus on the back story of Joannie Taylor, the sweary pensioner first seen in The Catherine Tate Show.

Mathew Horne will resume his role as grandson Jamie, with Katherine Parkinson also signed up to appear in the new feature.

Talking to David Tennant on a podcast, Tate said: "I've written a Nan film, which is great fun! I do think that's probably the one (character) that's got the legs to carry on."

The script for the new film has been written by Tate and Brett Goldstein. The duo previously collaborated to make three BBC One sitcom episodes based around the character, in 2014 and 2015.

Following on from the TV specials, Tate has since made guest appearances as the character, including appearing on Michael McIntyre's Big Show. The character was also central to her recent live shows.

The shoot for This Nan's Life will be overseen by theatre and film director Josie Rourke, with Damian Jones (Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie) as producer.

Further details about the project will be revealed in due course. Warner Brothers have pre-bought UK distribution rights, with a 2020 release date likely.
