Brassed Off tells the story of a colliery brass band in the northern mining town of Grimley.
Gloria (Tara Fitzgerald), who used to live in Grimley, has returned to her old hometown by her bosses at British Coal to see if the pit should remain open. She disguises her purpose by joining the mine's brass band playing the flugelhorn, where she comes into contact with her old childhood boyfriend Andy (Ewan McGregor).
The band is conducted by Danny (Pete Postlethwaite) who finds himself in a losing battle in trying to keep the band together and committed to their goal of reaching the final of a brass band competition held in the Royal Albert Hall. Even his own son Phil (Stephen Tompkinson) is in trouble with debts and takes up a job as a clown for children's parties.

If ordering from a UK store, please note that you are in Region 1 (DVD)/Region A (Blu-ray), whilst the UK is in Region 2/B, respectively. This means that many - but by no means all - may fail to play. Look for products marked "Region free", "All regions", "Region 0" or "Multi-region". Blu-rays may also be marked "Region A/B/C", or variations thereof. You may also check whether your DVD/Blu-ray player supports multi-region playback (also referred to as "region free"), or whether it can be set to do so. There should, of course, be no problems with books, CDs, or other physical items.
