Blithe Spirit was originally scheduled for cinematic release on Friday 1st May 2020, but delayed due to the covid-19 lockdown and closure of cinemas. Further releases in September and on Boxing Day 2020 were similarly postponed, with the film eventually bought for exclusive release through Sky's platforms.

The film is dedicated "in loving memory of" Michelle Guish and Michael Howells.
