Kate Smurthwaite is a political comedian. She tours nationally and internationally, appears regularly on TV and radio and writes for TV shows, newspapers and magazines as well as her own online video series News At Kate.

Since her stage debut in March 2004 Kate has toured fifteen one woman comedy shows to the Edinburgh Fringe and around the world including FRINGEWORLD Perth and appearances in New York, Los Angeles, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Spain and Ireland. She is a regular on the UK comedy circuit as an MC and act at major venues such as Manford's, Funhouse, The Stand and The Stand-Up Club and has hosted shows at the Bloomsbury Theatre and Hammersmith Apollo. She regularly headlines political comedy nights such as Quantum Leopard. In 2013 her one-woman show My Professional Opinion, about political debate in the media, led to Three Weeks magazine declaring her one of the ten best things about the Edinburgh Fringe.

Kate has been a panellist on hundreds of TV and radio debate and chat shows. These include Question Time, Newsnight, This Morning, Good Morning Britain, The Big Questions, Sunday Morning Live, Sky News, Channel Four News, ITV News, Channel Five News, Woman's Hour and The Today Programme.

Kate has written political comedy for TV and online formats, for a range of other performers and for newspapers and magazines. The latter includes The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Mirror, The Sun, Cosmopolitan, Stylist, New Statesman and New Internationalist. She has written for many other comedians, for online video content and for TV shows including BBC's BAFTA-winning The Revolution Will Be Televised and Have I Got News For You?.
