The advice given to Miranda Hart that changed her life

KISS, an acronym for Keep it Simple and Straightforward, was a principle established by the Navy (Google tells me the US Navy, which is disappointing as it sounds so delightfully British) suggesting that all systems work at their best when kept simple. It was adopted by engineering and technology designers and I've heard it used in tennis coaching with its more common phrasing Keep it Simple, Stupid. I prefer "Sweetie" for the gentler tone.

Review: Truth Seekers

It's frequently a deeply silly show, of course, and the season's overarching storyline, which involves the connection between wireless broadband and alternate dimensions, is pure, high-concept sci-fi, with just the right amount of cheesiness, for flavor. But Truth Seekers takes seriously the things it should: its need to throw in a few legitimate scares every so often and the abiding humanity of its characters.

Truth Seekers review

Frost and Pegg reunite in a creepy new series about amateur paranormal investigators - but does it have the nimble wit of Shaun of the Dead?

Frost and Pegg's nostalgic reunion lacks subversive zing.

Should comedians joke about Covid?

Some stand-ups see it as their job to provide collective catharsis for the coronavirus, while others see pandemic gags as off-limits - even ones about Trump.

Howerd's End review

Frankie Howerd may be the headline draw, but it's his long-term partner Dennis Heymer who finally gets his story told in this new play about their lopsided relationship. But no one would go to a show with his name in the title, which is very much the point.
