TV reviews: Hang Ups

In TV world, the only profession more troubled than a police detective is a therapist. From the outset, Hang Ups was a tense, nervous headache of a sitcom, a visible pulse in its temple, muscles a neurotic knot.

Marny Godden: Marny Town interview

I was intrigued to find out what prompted Marny to step out from behind her characters, and to find out more about her in general, so I lobbed some questions in her general direction.

July comedian of the month #49 Chris Washington

Chris Washington is a very enjoyable performer to listen to, largely down to his admirably laid-back delivery. This comic is down to earth and confident, and he doesn't try to allude to something he is not.

Interview: Willy Hudson

Willy Hudson is currently up in Edinburgh with his show Bottom, which explores the sexual politics of being queer and out on the scene, particularly the top / bottom politics for gay men. It's an insight in to a world that many will identify closely with, and for those that don't, it's an opportunity to learn something. It was really wonderful to catch up with Willy over the weekend to find out more about his show.

Interview: Victoria Firth

Victoria Firth is currently up at The Edinburgh Fringe with her solo show How to be Amazingly Happy, which is all about finding a new 'once upon a time' after the 'happy ever after' fails to turn up. In a world where we are geared and primed to 'get married' and 'have kids' from the get go, she is asking some big questions around what happens when that doesn't happen. It's an important topic and one that isn't discussed enough, so we were thrilled to run an interview with Victoria about the creation and inspiration behind this solo piece.

Opinion: Edinburgh Comedy Awards - Predictions

It's what I'd like to see on the list. There are over a thousand comedy shows in Edinburgh. I've barely scratched the surface. But I'd also say if you are in Edinburgh or see these shows below coming to your town bag a ticket. Even if they don't win any awards I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 12th August 2018
