Bill, film review

Elizabethan-era comedy yields as many laughs as it does groans.

Geoffrey MacNab, The Independent, 18th September 2015

Review: Bill (PG) ****

All the world's a stage and all the men and women are delightfully demented players.

Portsmouth News, 18th September 2015

Review: Bill

It's all utterly daft and cheerful, with lots of silly jokes -- 'People will remember the name Shakespeare 20 years from now,' declares Bill, feistily -- that might well fly over the head of its target audience, but will be lapped up by their parents alongside. Good, innocent fun.

Brian Viner, Daily Mail, 18th September 2015

Film review: Bill

Amid the belly laughs, the film proffers a new suspect for Marlowe's murder and sows the seeds of all 37 plays that would tumble furiously from Shakespeare's ink-stained quill.

The Yorkshire Post, 18th September 2015

Bill review

The original members of TV's Horrible Histories make a promising feature debut with this ribald period romp.

Jamie Healy, Radio Times, 18th September 2015

Review: Bill

If you're up for a spot of lyre rock and other hey-nonny-nonsense, this is exactly as you like it.

Elliott Noble, Sky, 18th September 2015

Bill review

Nothing is taken seriously, and there's a nice mix of old groaner jokes delivered with a visible wince and genuine, sneakily erudite wit. Being -- you know -- for kids, it's mucky in the sense of featuring a lot of mud and filth, but only smuggles in a few more adult gags.

Miles Jupp's hoping to tweak The News Quiz guest list

With his donnish demeanour, ecclesiastical upbringing and background in children's television, Miles Jupp is a somewhat unlikely comedian. "I went to an audition the other day," he says. "I needed to do a North West accent for it. The accent I did was really good, mainly because it sounded nothing like me. And the reason it sounded nothing like me was that I had attempted to drive my car into the NCP car park in Newport, forgetting that I still had a rooftop box on."

Johnny Dee, The Guardian, 18th September 2015

Is Jeremy Corbyn too nice for satire?

A man being persuaded to compromise on his lofty ideals could make for great comedy - but given the best satire kicks against the strong, it could be hard to wring gags from the underdog Corbyn.

Brian Logan, The Guardian, 18th September 2015

Stand-up Cymru: Elis James brings his comedy home

Elis James is recording a new stand-up show in his first language, Welsh.

Alice Jones, The Independent, 18th September 2015

Review: The News Quiz hosted by Miles Jupp, Radio 4

I'm not sure if fans will be saying "Sandi who?" just yet, but as debuts go this was a pretty efficient one. Jupp felt like a good fit and I'm sure he will get better. As he joshed when referring to Jeremy Corbyn: "It's all a learning curve and he'll be a lot more confident by episode 2..."

Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 18th September 2015

Bill review

Bill looks better than its budget, too, and should have enough international appeal to make that money back. Let's hope so, because this seems like only scratching the surface of what the team are capable of.

Steve Bennett, Chortle, 18th September 2015

Bill review

It really is an auspicious debut. The wider stage is richly deserved, and Baynton, Farnaby, Howe-Douglas, Howick, Rickard and Willbond possess it admirably.

Mark Braxton, Radio Times, 18th September 2015
