Further details
In the opening episode, forty-something magistrate, Marley is juggling work, marriage and a secret love affair. While her career goes from strength to strength husband Adam's business has failed and their relationship has taken a downward turn. Things come to a head when Adam drunkenly stumbles into her courtroom and after being escorted home by a furious Marley, chokes on a chicken bone and suddenly dies.
At his funeral she realises she can see Adam watching her and races home with an astonished Michael, Marley's colleague and lover, in tow - only to be run down by the local Vicar and also die. To add a further complication from the afterlife, the vicar, on whom Marley had been relying on to get rid of the ghosts, also shuffles off her own mortal coil.
So begins a bizarre ménage-a-quatre, with Adam, Michael and the vicar all moving in, albeit in ghostly form, to Marley's home. Marley is in despair. There's no room left on the sofa and she really doesn't want to live with ghosts, and especially not two really annoying ones - husband Adam and lover Michael, who are constantly bickering over, and competing for her affections.
The Vicar, a mediator of sorts makes a vain attempt to be Marley's confidante and sanctuary, but is useless, calling on made up tales from St Peter at times of crisis, and getting stories by Joan Collins and the Bible mixed up. It would appear Marley's on her own, even in this most claustrophobic of domestic situations.
