Profile from our 'Make It' Directory...

Hi I'm Dan

Always been interested in writing and found an evening comedy sketch writing course/group running in Richmond. It lasted all year and we wrote sketches and sitcoms and had them acted out by a college's drama groups. I wrote five sketches (people laughed) for a half-hour sketch show, 10 minutes of an existing sitcom -- 'One Foot In The Grave' -- (people laughed) and finally a pilot of an original sitcom (people laughed, and me(!) despite the fact that after 200 read throughs/rewrites I didn't think it was funny any more!)

I've entered sketches for opportunities ('Parsons & Naylor's Pullout Sections', 'Bearded Ladies', 'Sketch Factor' etc) but only had a polite rejection for the last one -- the others ignored me!

Currently co-developing the sitcom that was mentioned earlier. Four episodes drafted and/or written. Another episode planned but not written. It will most likely be acted out by the two writers and podcast... eventually!

I've had materical broadcast on BBC7's 'Play & Record' (November 2007), Angel Eye Media's 'Grrr' broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland (April 2008), 'Tilt' and both Series 1 and 2 of 'Newsjack' (both BBC Radio 7).

Material has been shortlisted for BBC Radio 4's'Recorded For Training Purposes' (series 3 & 4) and also stage sketch-shows 'The Works' (November 2009) and 'Teak Show' (January 2010).

A 10-minute sitcom script, 'Departures', has been performed successfully on stage at 'Script Night: Harvest Festival' in Leeds in October 2008. I'm developing this into a 15-minute radio script.

A sitcom, 'Outgoings', was in the final 32 (from 500) selected sitcoms to progress in The Sitcom Mission 2010.

I have sold original material to 118118's joke service.

The Sam & Dave Show, Soundart Radio, have produced and broadcast one of my sketches on air. They also animated a sketch and used it at their live show at the Hull Comedy Festival 2009.

I had a sitcom optioned by Ebuco, a Belgian Production Company, who pitched to French TV. Unfortunately, this was not taken further.

But most prestigiously of all, I won the British Comedy Guide's 'Sketch of the Year' 2008, as voted for by my peers: (http://board.sitcom.co.uk/thread/16585#P582825) even if it is, apparently, 'bollocks'. This is the sketch that The Sam & Dave Show recorded and subsequently animated above.
