My name is Martin David Holmes, I'm 20 years old and live in Hull. I'm an aspiring comedy writer, mainly focus on sitcoms, but have written sketches and also produced and performed my own podcast series (www.myspace.com/themartinholmes).
Most recently have been in contact with BBC Comedy North who have been great in offering feedback on my various sitcom scripts.
My name is Martin David Holmes, I was born on the 21st July 1988 in Hull, England.
I started writing, performing and producing a comedy podcast called 'As Soon As Plausible' in September 2006. I made two series of the podcast from September 06 to February 07. The podcast was a concoction of comedy sketches and topical humourous chat. I'm currently working on a brand new podcast series titled "It's The End Of The World (As We Know It)" that started in October 2007. The new podcast will be even funnier, more succinct and well structured, bringing a mix of wit, satire and silliness in the form of sketches, music and rants. My podcasts have had positive feedback from stand-up comedian Trevor Lock and writer/actress Emma Kennedy.
I have also finished writing a sitcom script titled 'Welcome To Stripe' along with Dylan Taylor. We have sent it off to production companies and have received some relatively positive feedback from a couple of companies so far. My earlier sitcom script for 'Street Theatre/Gloomy Days' got very positive feedback from the professional script reader Marc Blake. I'm also working on other sitcom scripts, radio scripts and a sketch show script.
UPDATE: Entered the BBC Northern Laughs competition a couple of months ago and was accepted on to the second stage. Unfortunately I couldn't proceed due to being in full-time education (a rule I missed when entering!). However BBC Comedy North have been great and kept in touch, allowing me to send them work. I recieved some positively encouraging feedback from BBC Writersoom, and I'm continuing to send new work to BBC Comedy North.
My biggest comedy influences are Bill Hicks and Stewart Lee, when it comes to stand up material. When it comes to sitcoms I'd have to say Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development and I'm Alan Partridge. I'm also a big fan of The Day Today, Brass Eye, The Armando Iannucci Shows and Mr Show with Bob & David.
