Spring In Park Lane
OUT NOW. This jaunty 'upstairs-downstairs' romantic comedy could hardly have failed to triumph at the box-office, and Spring In Park Lane would indeed prove the most successful British film of 1948. Starring Anna Neagle and Michael Wilding, this is a tale of a footman who is not quite what he claims to be, and the niece of his employer, who sees straight through the facade. Details |

Message Board Posts... |
Here are some quotes from our message board...
"It's made double the amount of money that Alpha Papa did. A sad day for British Comedy." Woozie on Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie
"I'll look forward to seeing it on Gold for nostalgia sakes. I hope Graham got a big cheer when his face came up." Steve Sunshine on Monty Python Live (Mostly)
"On the strength of this thread I'll rent the first series and start from there. I did find it funny in the 80s." TheBlueNun on 'Allo 'Allo!
"Started watching this after the death of the great Sam Kelly who was always my favourite in 'Allo 'Allo!. Have got through the first 2 series and love it. Nothing clever or original but just a nice easy comedy with a great cast to finish an evening." fustidious on Barbara
"I think it's pretty good, although the 'mentally disturbed new boss guy' plot is a bit of a lead balloon for me." TBone on Episodes
"I have just finished watching the first series. Had to dust off my old VHS double box set, luckily the tapes still played. The episodes really do get better and better." teenage comedy freak on The New Statesman
"I saw a few episodes from the first 2 series and I was never really a fan. But I've been watching this series and the 1st episode of the series was the best Friday Night Dinner I'd ever seen." blahblah on Friday Night Dinner |

The New Statesman
We continue a round-up of the sitcoms of the late, legendary Rik Mayall with this masterstroke of late 1980s/early 1990s satire. He stars as the atrocious Alan B'Stard, the most right-wing Conservative MP in the House, as the series skewers all the stereotypes and popular images of the politicians of the day with panache. Many of the references are understandably dated, but with plenty of physical comedy and one of the most delicious sitcom monsters ever created, The New Statesman has lost little of its humour, 27 yeas since it began.
