BBC Radio 2 is working on Ankle Tag, a new sitcom pilot about a man who is reunited with his imprisoned fraudster father.

Crims star Elis James will play Gruff, a new father whose own father, Bob, suddenly comes back into his life after a long absence.

The BBC explains: "Bob is a convicted fraudster, released from prison on licence, who wants to inveigle his way back into his estranged son's life (again through fraud). He's charming, optimistic and warm. People like him. That's why they gave him so much of their life savings."

Ankle Tag will also star Katy Wix as Gruff's wife, Alice. She is quite taken with the charming Bob, and fails to take note that he is using the skills he learnt as a fraudster to ingratiate himself with the family.

Details on which actor will play Bob have not yet been revealed.

Ankle Tag has been written by Benjamin Partridge and Gareth Gwynn. The Welsh writing duo have previously worked with Elis James on the BBC Radio Wales shows Here Be Dragons and Elis James' Pantheon Of Heroes.

The pilot episode will be recorded at the BBC Radio Theatre on Saturday 17th October. To apply to be in the audience see our free tickets page

Ankle Tag is one of a number of sitcoms that Radio 2 has commissioned in a revival of the Radio 2's Comedy Showcase pilots season. Yesterday, The King's Men and The Peterford Golf Club were revealed. There will be five pilots in total, broadcasting from 16th November under an initiative that will see each episode available online a week beforehand, launching on iPlayer on 9th November.

Katy Wix and Elis James both have a number of other sitcom projects on their CVs too. Wix, who has just finished starring in Fried, will next be seen in new BBC Three sitcom Together, and she is soon set to record a new Christmas special of Not Going Out. Meanwhile James will appear in Josh, a new sitcom written by fellow stand-up Josh Widdicombe.
