Tim Vine is to pilot The Tim Vine Chat Show on Radio 4.

The format involves the punning comedian chatting to members of the audience who have been invited up on to the stage. The conversation is not serious, as Vine jokes around with guests.

The show gives Vine a platform to deliver many of his exhaustive memory bank of one-liners, related to the person's profession, hobbies and anecdotes.

The format has proved to be a big success at the Edinburgh Fringe, where Vine has run it as a live show for four years already, from 2010 to 2013 (listings & reviews).

Talking about the radio pilot, the BBC say: "Critically acclaimed Tim brings you the show that features interviews with you, the Great British public, as well as his world famous one-liners and songs."

Speaking in an interview with BCG last year, Tim Vine revealed he was hoping to develop the format further, perhaps on TV.

However, adding a word of caution, he said: "I think often with telly, they see an idea and they like it and then they always want to change it, otherwise they are not doing anything. So it is almost the case that if you have something which is, you feel, a finished product, that's not always a good thing."

Vine has also taken the live show to Australia. He joked with BCG ahead of his last trip: "Before we start a show, a guy asks the audience to fill in forms with their details on, and then he brings these things back to me - sometimes we don't get that many handed in and so sometimes it'd be 'oh not another management consultant' - there are some quite bland jobs sometimes! We were joking that, if we were doing it in Australia, we would try and think what would keep coming up, and it'd be 'not another flipping shark attack'."

The comedian will record the pilot episode for Radio 4 at the BBC Radio Theatre on Tuesday 22nd September. To apply to be in the audience see our free tickets page
