Raised By Wolves is to return for a second series.

The Channel 4 sitcom broadcast its first critically acclaimed series earlier this year. Created and written by journalist Caitlin Moran and her sister, Caroline, it is inspired by and largely features events from their real-life childhoods growing up in Wolverhampton.

The comedy stars Helen Monks and Alexa Davies as sisters Germaine Garry (pictured, based on Caitlin), and Aretha Garry, based on Caroline.

Rebekah Staton features as their no-nonsense mother, Della, with Philip Jackson as her father, Grampy. Amongst the other Garry siblings are Yoko (Molly Risker), Wyatt (Caden Ellis Wall) and Mariah (Erin Freeman).

Staton, Monks, Davies and Jackson have all been confirmed to return for Raised By Wolves Series 2, which will be broadcast in 2016.

Following a successful pilot - broadcast in December 2013 - the series, produced by Caroline Norris and directed by Ian FitzGibbon, was watched by an average of 950,000 viewers for each of its six episodes (overnight figures); a respectable number for Channel 4. It broadcast during March and April 2015.

Writing on Twitter, Caroline Moran commented: "Hurrah for us! Raised By Wolves is coming back for a second series! Wank away the pain!"

In a statement, she explained: "Our mission from God (copyright The Blues Brothers) continues with series two of Raised By Wolves, in which strong working class women continue to be as weird, unpleasant and amazing as men. We're going to try and top Germaine's whilst wank looking at David Dimbleby during Question Time - I just need to send an email to Evan Davies from Newsnight to get his okay."

Caz Moran added: "I am mega-stoked we are putting the band back together. This is truly bostin'news. I have assembled the giant box of bananas, the fingerless gloves and the Mad Max: Fury Road soundtrack I will need to get me through the writing process and will now seal myself into the comedy creation bunker. Big up Channel 4!"

Fiona McDermott, Commissioning Editor for Comedy at Channel 4, says: "We are delighted to welcome the wolves back into the Channel 4 den. Della's brood are one of the most original and refreshingly funny families to be on our screens for a long time, we can't wait to see what these 'midland twats' get up to in Series 2."

Kenton Allen, Chief Executive of production company Big Talk, adds: "The reaction to the first series of Raised By Wolves exceeded all of our collective expectations. And I'm from the West Midlands so genetically my expectations are always pretty low. Rest assured the Garry family will back in full Black Country force, this time with added Dad!"
