Comedy duo Tom Rosenthal and Naz Osmanoglu have had their own sitcom commissioned by BBC Three.

Flat TV was piloted under the BBC's iPlayer Comedy Feeds initiative in 2014, and traces its origins to a four-part online series in 2012 - Flat News With Tom & Naz - produced for the now-defunct BBC Comedy Extra website.

The series features "two naïve flatmates who battle against the mundane reality of living together by imagining their boring lives through the prism of television".

The BBC adds: "Wary of the outside world and the responsibilities it entails, Tom and Naz choose instead to escape into a dream world where ordinary events play out through their favourite TV formats.

"Whether they're fighting over arranging furniture in their own version of Big Brother (Big Flat) or accidentally find themselves locked out in I'm Not A Celebrity Get Me Back In The Flat - Tom and Naz manage to survive the daily grind thanks to their hyper-vivid imaginations."

Controller of BBC Comedy Production, Myfanwy Moore says: "We're delighted to be working with Tom and Naz - sadly dysfunctional human beings that play out their sorry lives through the lens of popular culture, naturally with hilarious consequences."

Comedy Commissioner Shane Allen added today: "The inventive flights of fancy device at the heart of this reminds me of the extra layer of comedy that Peep Show brought. By being able to tell a story and lampoon all genres of television it's a clever and original narrative and sketch show hybrid."

Tom Rosenthal and Naz Osmanoglu have been flatmates in real life, residing in Islington, north London.

The two stars are stand-up comedians and actors. Osmanoglu, part of sketch group WitTank, has credits including Live At The Electric, whilst Rosenthal is best known for his roles as Jonny in Channel 4's Friday Night Dinner and Marcus in ITV2's Plebs, both of which are due to return for new series.
