Daniel O'Reilly - who plays the controversial comedy character Dapper Laughs - has been working on a sitcom pilot featuring his creation.

The comic actor, who has been accused of misogyny by much of the media and in November was the subject of a high profile petition to have his ITV2 series Dapper Laughs: On The Pull axed, has posted the 4 minute pilot on his YouTube channel today.

Dapper, which has been produced by Broken Toaster TV, sees the "ultimate lad" character still confident that he has a career ahead of him, despite the very negative reviews and press attention he has received.

His agent - played by co-writer Ben Adams - is seen trying to bring his client back down to Earth and change his style of humour. The bearded adviser advises at one point: "Why don't you try and think of something that's not in the gutter?"

The pilot also observes Dapper trying to film a new video for his internet fans, but ending up accidently punching a woman he is chasing with his camera phone.

O'Reilly, who appeared on Newsnight in November to answer the misogyny claims, said during the interview that he was retiring the character. However, he has since returned to performing as Dapper Laughs.

Speaking to Radio 1 last month, O'Reilly claimed he was bullied by the mainstream media into stopping performing as Dapper.

He said: "I'm working class, I know that my humour caters for that type of lad, or whatever, humour. But the majority of people at my shows were women. I understand the upper class are not going to like my humour, but they've bullied me out of continuing to do what I wanted to do.

"When they portrayed my humour to the masses, to the UK, they done it in a way where they showed everything's falling apart, the rape joke and everything like that. I felt it was unfair really, to be honest."

He added: "There are millions of people in the UK who think they know who Dapper Laughs is that have never seen any of his videos."

On the subject of his Newsnight interview and the apparent revival of the character, O'Reilly says: "Everything was too much. It was the only why that I could stop the drama. Then, do you know what? I sat down and thought about it, I thought to myself 'Nah, I'm not going to be bullied out of what I like doing. Let's bring it back, let's carry on'."

Dapper Laughs still has 358,000 Twitter followers and 1,782,000 fans on Facebook.
