British Comedy Awards 2014 results
The British Comedy Awards 2014 have been handed out at a ceremony in Wembley, London, hosted by Jonathan Ross.
This year the awards were not broadcast live on television, but pre-recorded for transmission on Channel 4. They will be broadcast this Wednesday 17th December from 9pm.
Matt Berry's Toast Of London walked away with Best New Comedy, but lost out in the other categories it was nominated in. Graham Norton was one of the multiple winners, but Harry Enfield picked up the most trophies of the night, taking three awards.
Brendan O'Carroll picked up the Writers' Guild Of Great Britain Award; Monty Python were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award; whilst Jack Whitehall triumphed in the public vote to be crowned King of Comedy for the third year in a row.

Zawe Ashton (for Fresh Meat)
Parkinson said she really didn't expect to win, so didn't have a speech prepared. Instead she just thanked her husband, actor Harry Peacock (Toast Of London's Ray Purchase), and the sponsor, Lidl.
Best Male TV Comic
David Mitchell (for Would I Lie To You?)
Lee Mack (for Would I Lie To You?) - Winner
Sean Lock (for 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown)
Stewart Lee (for Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle)
Mack was working so couldn't be at the awards, but he gave a funny acceptance speech from his dressing room via video link. It included promoting Aldi, the rivals of sponsor Lidl.
Best Sketch Show
Harry And Paul's Story Of The 2s - Winner
Harry Enfield accepted the award on behalf of the one-off sketch show, thanking lots and lots of people whilst talking in a posh voice. He particularly thanked his long-term partner 'Duckie Whitehouse'.

Aisling Bea (for 8 Out Of 10 Cats) - Winner
Bridget Christie (for Have I Got News For You)
Isy Suttie (for Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled)
Nina Conti (for Live At The Apollo)
Aisling Bea described winning as "amazing". She pointed out she is pretty new to stand-up, and thanked all those on the circuit who have helped her in her career so far.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Dara O Briain announced that this year this special award goes to Monty Python to recognise their decades of comedy work. None of the sketch troupe were present in the room however, leaving it to Michael Palin to say thank you via a video recorded on a mobile phone. Sam Holmes, the actor who appeared with them on stage at the O2 Arena, then took to the stage dressed as a doctor to read out a prepared comic speech written by the group.

Having already won once, you would have thought Enfield would have run out of thank yous, however this time he started jokingly thanking the country's politicians.
Best Comedy Drama
Rev - Winner
The producers and some of the cast took to the stage to accept the award. Executive Producer Kenton Allen said it was a surprise to win given the tough competition.
Best New Comedy Programme
Toast Of London - Winner
Co-presenter Joey Essex totally mangled his autocue speech whilst introducing this award, before pretty much the whole Toast Of London cast and crew took to the stage to accept the honour. Matt Berry said "I'm quite humbled because I didn't actually think anyone would watch this."

As became a bit of a theme for the evening, none of the stars of the show were present to pick up the award.
Best Sitcom
Moone Boy - Winner
Oops. Paul Chowdhry, who was presenting the award alongside Seann Walsh, mispronounced the winning show as 'Mooney Boy'. Later, backstage, Walsh mercilessly teases his fellow stand-up for this mistake. Video

In a long and rambling but funny speech, Nick Helm poked fun at fellow nominees, including Matt Berry.

Graham Norton accepted his second prize from his dressing room too, with Danny Dyer handing over the trophy.
Writers' Guild Of Great Britain Award
Brendan O'Carroll was presented with the Writers' Guild Of Great Britain Award for his work on Mrs Brown's Boys. It has to be said there was a mixed reaction from the crowd when this news was announced. However, many did then applaud his speech about how comedy is hard work.
Later backstage, Brendan told BCG that another film was a possibility but the first was a lot of work so he wasn't entirely sure. He added that the cartoon version of the show was "being made as we speak".

Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, who play Claire and Phil in the US sitcom, accepted the award via a pre-recorded video.

Harry & Paul's Story Of The 2s - Winner
This award was announced on the after-show which will be broadcast E4, presented by Alex Brooker and Katherine Ryan. It went to the scene in which Harry & Paul parodied all the various panel shows. Watch
King / Queen Of Comedy
Jack Whitehall won the category, which is the only one voted for by the public, for the third year in a row. Like many of this year's winners, he wasn't at the ceremony, so gave a thank you speech from the Backchat studios.
