Comedy Central in the UK today confirmed that it has ordered a full series of Drunk History.

The format, originating on the American Comedy Central, sees comedians "getting very drunk in order to tell a true historical story they are passionate about".

Following a successful pilot, the channel has now ordered an 8-episode series from production company Tiger Aspect.

As the drunk comedians narrate their historical stories, "slurred word for slurred word", a host of well-known actors, celebrities and other comedians act out these new, rather blurry versions of history.

Johnny Vegas, Ralf Little, Russell Kane, Joe Lycett, Russell Tovey, Rob Beckett, Alex Horne and James Acaster will all appear in the series, which will be narrated by Jimmy Carr.

Lourdes Diaz, Vice President, Head of Global Production & Development, Comedy Central International says: "I'm excited that we have green lit series production for Drunk History. I know our UK audience is going love it, after all, it combines two things the nation holds dear to its heart...drinking and history!"

Andy Brereton, Head of Comedy and Entertainment at Tiger Aspect, added: "The Drunk History team is really looking forward to creating some great historical moments with a who's who of British comedy talent. Hopefully everyone's careers will recover, even if their livers don't."

The series joins recent sitcom commissions Brotherhood and I Live With Models as Comedy Central seeks to put a stamp on UK comedy with a range of original comedy programming.

Drunk History will be broadcast on Comedy Central in 2015.
