E4 is to screen Almost Royal, a comedy-reality series in which two young British aristocrats take their first trip around the United States, interacting with Americans and finding out more about the country.

However, much like Borat, unbeknownst to the Americans being filmed for what they are told is a documentary, the central characters are actually actors.

The show, which has been made by the British production team Burning Bright Productions, started on BBC America last month. The programme has in the main been well received by audiences and critics, and is now BBC America's top rated comedy series.

Almost Royal stars comedians Ed Gamble and Amy Hoggart as Georgie and Poppy Carlton, heirs to a large country estate in Norfolk where they have enjoyed privileged lives as the 50th and 51st in line to the throne. The pair ostensibly agree to be filmed going on a road trip of America, seeing it as an opportunity to spread their wings and commemorate their late father, Lord Carlton.

The description adds: "Georgie and Poppy have never worked a day in their lives, driven themselves anywhere or solved any problem more complex than telling their butler to tell their cook what they want for lunch."

The comedy sees the characters interacting with locals whilst undertaking activities such as meeting a cheerleading team, working as car mechanics, dealing with a rap battle, making an appearance at New York Fashion Week, saddling up in Texas, and bidding at an auction for cattle semen.

Perry Simon from BBC America says: "I'm delighted that E4 will be introducing the Carlton siblings to the UK audience. Georgie and Poppy have taken America by storm, and now all of us at BBC America are thrilled to be sending them back."

Executive Producer Julie Swanston adds: "I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Georgie and Poppy and I'm sure E4 viewers will too!"

The seven part series will be screened on E4 this autumn. Below is a video in which the characters introduce themselves:
