Glaswegian comic Kevin Bridges is to host three brand new comedy specials on BBC One later this year.

Marking the Scottish independence referendum and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, being held in Glasgow, the first of the specials will be broadcast in July, and the latter two in September.

The July programme, Live At The Commonwealth, will see Kevin take to the stage at Glasgow's Theatre Royal to host a very special live stand-up show to celebrate the city's hosting of the summer games and will feature internationally renowned comedians from the Commonwealth.

September will see a special edition of the factual/stand-up series Kevin Bridges: What's The Story?, in which Bridges will venture onto the streets of Scotland to discover what the Scottish independence referendum (to be held on Thursday 18th September) means to his fellow countrymen.

Live At The Referendum completes the trio of specials, and will feature Kevin returning to the stage of the Theatre Royal in Glasgow to host a night of live comedy featuring top comedians from the UK.

All three programmes will be produced by the Scottish arm of production company Open Mike, having been commissioned by Alan Tyler for BBC Entertainment for BBC One, and Commissioning Editor for BBC Scotland, Ewan Angus.

Kevin Bridges says: "It's a huge year for Scotland with the referendum and the Commonwealth Games, the European Music Awards and the Ryder Cup. It's great to be asked to make these shows and find some comedy in it all. I'm looking forward to it."

Alan Tyler says: "The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the referendum on independence are hugely important moments for Scotland. Neither would be complete without Kevin's singular take on events and we are delighted that he will be firmly ensconced on our screens, mic in hand."

Commissioning Editor for BBC Scotland, Ewan Angus, says: "Audiences love Kevin Bridges and we're delighted to offer up these shows as part of the BBC's huge range of output to mark Scotland's big year in 2014."
