Micky Flanagan to tour France on a bicycle for Sky series

Sky1 has announced the new show Micky Flanagan Hits The Road.

The four-part documentary series with see stand-up comedian Micky Flanagan cycling around France.

The show, which is described as 'an amusing, honest and energetic' documentary series sees the comedian "undertake the ultimate test of man's endurance as he cycles his very own fantasy Tour de France. A tour that craftily incorporates Champagne vineyards, Belgian beers, epic landscapes, wild boar, Burgundy wines, the Eiffel Tower and... nudist camps."

Flanagan will be joined on the journey by one of his good friends. Sky explains: "Riding alongside him is the man who convinced him to get on his bicycle, Noel Lynch. A brickie by profession, a cyclist in his heart and Micky's long standing mate of some 15 years."

The channel adds: "As they hit the road Micky and Noel examine those all (un)important question such as are those narrow seats really any good for your fruit and nuts; and is lycra nothing more than a dangerous fetish gateway fashion?"

Micky Flanagan says: "Life is a journey. I like journeys. Even French ones. This will be a journey of physical and mental obstacles and I will overcome them all... once I've bought the bike."

Sky's Adam MacDonald comments: "I'm so excited to have Micky & Noel on board for Micky Flanagan Hits The Road; it's a joyful, passionate and funny production which makes it perfect for Sky 1. I can't wait for our customers to enjoy the ride alongside Micky & Noel."

Liza Abbott from new production company 7Wonder says: "This is our first commission and we're thrilled to be in production with such a strong series so soon from the 7Wonder launch. We couldn't think of a better way to start than co-producing with Britain's most popular comedian. That along with the fact that I am a middle-aged cyclist - it's the perfect busman's holiday."

The four hour-long episodes of Micky Flanagan Hits The Road, which is currently a working title, will be broadcast on Sky1 later this year.

In an un-related BBC One programme, John Bishop is set to travel around Australia. John Bishop's Australia will see the comedian retracing the route of a mammoth bike journey he first made as a 25-year-old back in 1992. Using his original diary from the road trip as a guidebook, he will cycle routes from Sydney up the East Coast of Australia towards far Northern Queensland.
