Frank Skinner is to host The Rest Is History, a new comedy discussion show for BBC Radio 4 based around the topic of the past.

The show's producers explain: "Frank Skinner loves history, but just doesn't know much of it, so he's created The Rest Is History, a brand new comedy discussion show, in order to find out more."

The six-part series, which is set to be recorded next month, will see the stand-up comedian joined by a selection of celebrity guests, who will "help him navigate his way through the annals of time, picking out and chewing over the funniest, oddest, and most interesting moments in history".

Each week Skinner will be joined by Dr Kate Williams, who will act as the historian in residence on the show. Williams has previously published a number of history-related books and appeared on many factual TV programmes, including acting as the presenter on Timewatch: Young Victoria.

The Rest Is History will be made by the production arm of Avalon, Skinner's management agency. The company has also made formats including BBC One panel show I Love My Country, on which Skinner acted as a team captain, and Frank Skinner's Opinionated, the BBC Two chat show the comedian presented in 2010 and 2011.

Recording dates for the series have been booked at Sadler's Wells Theatre and King's Place Hall in March. To apply to be in the audience see our free tickets page

Frank Skinner can currently be seen presenting Room 101 on Friday nights. He is also preparing to launch his first stand-up tour since 2007. The 35 date Man In A Suit run will start in April.
