BBC Three sitcom Pramface has been recommissioned.

BBC executives have renewed the sitcom for a third series, and the new run will consist of six episodes.

Launched in 2012, Pramface was renewed for a second series before the first had been seen by TV viewers, however with both series screened it was not confirmed until now whether the show would continue any further.

The new episodes are expected to be filmed later this year, for broadcast in early 2014.

Pramface follows the story of Laura and Jamie, who end up having a baby together after a drunken one night stand, but are not boyfriend and girlfriend. The show also involves the teenager's parents - with Laura from a well-to-do middle class family, and Jamie from a working class background - and clashes with their respective friendship and social groups.

There have been 13 episodes to date, with Series 2 - focussing on how the duo coped with their newborn - shown earlier this year. The final episode, broadcast in February, left it up in the air as to whether the two lead characters were now heading towards becoming a couple or not.

Created by Chris Reddy, Pramface stars Scarlett Alice Johnson and Sean Michael Verey in the lead roles, with Angus Deayton, Anna Chancellor, Ben Crompton and Bronagh Gallagher as their respective parents, and Dylan Edwards, Yasmin Paige and Emer Kenny as friends Mike, Beth and Danielle.

The programme has generally been well received by viewers and critics, with The Daily Telegraph calling it "funny, charming and truthful" and The Radio Times pointing out the show is "bawdy but not gratuitously gross; sweet at heart but not too cheesy". By the end of its run, the show was attracting approximately 600,000 viewers an episode, a relatively high figure for contemporary BBC Three, with many more viewers seeing repeats later in the week and watching via iPlayer.
