New stand-up competition launches in Scunthorpe

Funny Scunny

The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe is launching a new act competition.

'Funny Scunny' aims to locate new stand-up comedy talent, with the prizes on offer including a trophy, a cash prize and the chance to perform at a comedy club night at the venue.

The organisers explain: "The Baths Hall is launching a search for Scunthorpe's newest stand-up comedy talent. Get on stage this summer and you could win £400 and assorted other prizes, as well as a special Funny Scunny trophy and the chance to perform at a future Knock Knock comedy club night.

"Contestants will get six minutes to impress our judging panel at one of three heats. The winners of each heat will then go on to the Grand Final which will be held on Thursday, 26 June. The Grand Final will also feature a very special guest headline act."

The competition, which is free to enter, is open to those aged 16 or over. Entrants can be from anywhere in the UK - not just from Scunthorpe, although if you don't live in the area you will need to travel to the North Lincolnshire town so as to be able to take part in one of the heats.

The heats are being held on the 5th, 12th and 13th June 2014, with the final set for Thursday 26th June 2014.

Paul Savage from venue says: "The Baths Hall has recently played host to the likes of Jimmy Carr, Jon Richardson, Jason Manford, Bill Bailey and Sarah Millican after being completely re-built in 2011. You may remember the famous Jasper Carrott sketch about The Baths Hall from the early 80s!

"We're now looking to discover new local talent. All of the heats are free to enter and free for local people to attend. We're hoping to attract a panel of judges made up of industry folk as well as local media types."

To apply, or for more details, email info@bathshall.co.uk or call 01724 290641. The deadline to enter is the end of May.
