The creators of David Mitchell's Soapbox, the popular online video series starring the Would I Lie To You? and Peep Show star, have launched a new competition.

ChannelFlip have teamed up with the show's sponsor, computer manufacturer Dell, to launch Comedy Spots, a competition to find the "next David Mitchell". It's worth having a think whether you could be the next video star... as a year's development deal and a cool £10,000 in hard cash is being offered to the winner.

If you're a budding comic talent then visit www.comedyspots.tv and upload a video, in a style of your choosing.

The videos will all be available for public consumption and viewers will be encouraged to vote for their favourites until the competition closes on Friday 5th October.

The finalists will be made up of the top five videos as voted by the public, and a further five hand-picked by David Mitchell himself. All 10 finalists will be invited to participate in the London final, where they will introduce their video for a panel of judges made up of industry experts including Mitchell, who will announce the winner on the night.

Mitchell offers the following thought for would-be entrants: "So who exactly are we to sit in judgment? Maybe you want to think about that before entering this so-called 'competition'? And best of luck to all!"

Jamie Lennox, ChannelFlip's Content Director says: "Great talent is the lifeblood of everything we do at ChannelFlip and we know there's some fantastically creative and funny people out there - but it's not easy to find an audience for your stuff and with more and more comedians creating and uploading their own content online, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd."

"Comedy Spots is a great way for us to find that new talent and connect it to a wider audience using our network and industry experience, as well as giving some lucky comedic genius a well-deserved break. It's great to have found a partner in Dell who have really got behind the initiative, helping us use technology to reach out to fans of great content in this kind of new and engaging way."

James Griffiths from Dell adds: "The response from fans of the show last season was fantastic and we really wanted to express our appreciation to the viewers by giving them the chance to jump onto their own soapbox and perform their own unique brand of comedy. Dell's sponsorship of Season IV of Soapbox and the search to find the next David Mitchell are proof points of how we are engaging with our customers in a relevant and memorable way - and who knows, we might just discover a comedy superstar while we're at it!"
