Submissions are open for the annual COFILMIC Comedy Film Festival, with people invited to send in their short comedy films of between 5-7 minutes for the chance to win cash prizes and exclusive one-to-one meetings with leading experts from the comedy industry.

The festival will be held at The Comedy Store in Manchester on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th October 2014. Alongside the competition, a host of industry events and discussions, live comedy, screenings of the shortlisted films and the COFILMIC Awards ceremony will also take place.

There are three categories for people to submit films in this year:

Comedy Short Film: max length 7 mins.
Comedy Sketch: max length 5 mins.
Sitcom Pilot or Web Series Pilot: max length 7 mins.

The deadline for submissions is 12pm noon on Tuesday 30th September 2014. Running times must include credits and a £10 entry fee applies. Prizes will be announced shortly, but will again include a mix of cash prizes and one-to-one meetings with leading industry experts.

This year, COFILMIC has partnered with mobile app Mikz to enable users to watch all the submitted short films and vote for their favourite, which will count alongside the votes of the expert judging panel. The app is free to download and allows those submitting to showcase their work and encourage their friends, families and members of the public to vote for their film.

Mikz was launched in Sweden and already has 1 million users around the world, offering channels from celebrities, brands and individuals and enabling users to keep up-to-date with the latest news and offers they want, access unique content and create a network they want.

Janet Harrison, founder of COFILMIC, said: "We've been so impressed with the quality of films we've received since we launched and I look forward to seeing what submissions we get this year. The partnership with Mikz also enables those submitting to share their content far and wide, to encourage votes and to really gauge which films audiences like the most."

COFILMIC was launched in 2010 with the aim of nurturing new comedy talent through industry events, showcases, partnerships and competitions. Judges have included BAFTA winning producer Charlie Hanson, Baby Cow Productions' co-founder Henry Normal and BBC Comedy commissioner Kristian Smith. Participants have gone on to have projects commissioned, scripts optioned and landed acting roles.
